SSD for T61 and Middleton BIOS
SSD for T61 and Middleton BIOS
I'm planning on replacing my 80GB, 5400 C drive in a T61 with an SSD, and therefore I've flashed in the Middleton BIOS. My question is, with critical updates including those to the BIOS being released on occasion by Lenovo, if I install these will they negate or replace the Middleton BIOS ? If this is the case, which should I stick with..the regular updates from Lenovo (which often address key stability issues) or the older Middleton BIOS. In other words, are they exclusive and/or incompatible with one another ? Thank you for your advice, as you can see I'm a bit confused !

Re: SSD for T61 and Middleton BIOS
Middleton's BIOS is V2.29.
Lenovo brought out V2.30 quite a while ago, which you do NOT want or need!
There won't be any more Lenovo updates BTW.
After you have applied M's BIOS, you could change your BIOS Security/BIOS Update Option to Disabled, just in case.
NEVER let ANY program update your BIOS automatically!

Re: SSD for T61 and Middleton BIOS
That's good to know, so I'll keep the BIOS at 2.29. Presumably the system patches that 'Lenovo Update' alerts me to, whenever I run it, things like the Ultra Nav driver and WER patch for system update, Intel Matrix storage manager driver, Lenovo Power management etc etc are ok to allow ? These are not BIOS changes, is that correct ?
In installing the Middleton BIOS I've effectively reversed and uninstalled the Thinkpad BIOS update version 2.30-1.08 (it installed on 9/9/2014, but I think that was when I enabled Lenovo Update...it was probably released some time before that ?) Presumably there are useful Lenovo Updates which can be installed, in the future, without impacting on the BIOS, or should I put a stop to all Lenovo updates, and only allow Windows updates ?

Let us know how this shakes out after you make the mod. I have the same hardware with a new SSD but have not made the mod with the Middleton BIOS. Thanks.
