** GONE - back to IBM. thanks- **

** DROPPED TO $2000 **

Surprisingly, I received an open bay T42p from IBM - but do not need it as I'm already settled in with my 2379dyu.

It is brand new, but I have opened the unit to confirm contents. This model has a one year warranty. It's a great deal, especially if you have some extra parts lying around.

For those unaware, this model comes with all bays open, so at the least you will need:

Battery - new 6 cells on ebay for about $80

DVD drive - you can get a DVD, CD-RW/DVD, or DVD+RW.. the cheapest option here was a $15 drive on ebay YMMV http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW

Memory - $105 for 512 megs

Clear plate to cover the indicator lights (13N5666 I believe ~$15?)

Hard drive - I picked up an 80gb from Dell for about $140 a few months back

You may also want a minipci wireless as well as a bluetooth. It appears to have provisions for both internally (including antenna for both from what I can tell) and you can always use PCMCIA cards.

I'll accept paypal bank xfer or paypal CC (CC will be extra 2% to cover their fees). Free UPS ground insured shipping. I have a 60+ 100% rating on ebay, FWIW.

If desired, I can boot it up to check for basic operation and stuck pixels. I think the UXGA fares well in that department; the display is fantastic, no problems with DVD or gaming.

Contact me via pm for more information or additional pictures.. thanks! joe

Joe,

Is $2375 what you're asking??

IBM sells that unit for $1828! http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... p/_2378EZU

It's my impression that they are an internal code, and aren't normally for sale - but some slipped through. If not, then I think many people here would buy this model and equip on their own with the parts they need.

With the cheapest IBM config for this being $3000ish including tax and shipping, it represents a good deal for those who need it. I would have kept it myself but I ordered a 2379DYU assuming this wouldn't come in.

If I'm violating terms here let me know and I'll remove the post. Thanks.

No violations of anything Joe, just expressing curiosity at your asking price of $2375, if that's what it is.

You can call 888-SHOP-IBM and order a 2378EZU from them for $1828.

If you "build your own", you can get that exact same model WITH 512MB RAM, a 5K40 HD, a mini-PCI a/b/g card, an Ultrabay Slim CD/DVD drive, a 6 cell battery and XP for $2,573.75!

But, you're certainly entitled to ask whatever you want for the one you have ready for immediate delivery.

I'll put a big YMMV on this - but when I called they wouldn't sell me that part directly, and said that they couldn't get me a config for under 3 grand. Now this is from just one phone call - we know how getting the "right" csr might give a different result.

If you're in the market for a model like this, I'd encourage everyone interested to try Bill - the owner of this site - to see what he can find.

Thanks - Joe
