T410 screen replacement options
T410 screen replacement options
New T410 "co-owner" (ok - bought for my daughter off e-bay for use in college).
Well she broke the screen. Still useable, but needs to be replaced.
Can anyone post what various screens (or laptops other than the T410 that have interchangeable screens) can be used as a replacement? I thought I sorta had it narrowed down from her S/N and model # by going through the Lenovo support sites. But I realize that shows the screen that came with hers, not alternatives (I think).
So I plan to pick one up off e-bay when I find the right price, but need to know what to look for to expand my alternatives.
Hers is a "machine number" 2516-CTO, which shows screen s as FRU 42T0725 or 42T0729 or 42T0733.
Apparently these are all interchangeable WXGA 1280x800 screens.
I have also seen that many people replace this screen with the WXGA+ 1440x900, which seems to be FRU 42T0727 or 42T0731 or 42T0735.
So I would like to know the various means to search for these screens, besides looking for the FRU numbers or looking for "T410 Screen".
What other laptops use the same screens (so I can look for non-working laptops with good screens)?
Thanks for tips and advice!

Re: T410 screen replacement options
Welcome to the forum!
You're stuck with factory options when it comes to T410 screens. While other laptops might have used similar screens, without comparing the pinouts you have an excellent choice of blowing a fuse on the motherboard. Not worth it IMO.
Just make sure that you get a *proper* Lenovo-issued panel with a FRU number - not a "compatible" piece of garbage - and you're golden.
Good luck.

Thanks ajkula66.
"Just make sure that you get a *proper* Lenovo-issued panel with a FRU number - not a "compatible" piece of garbage - and you're golden.
"
...ok... and how would I know the difference? Are you saying that if it has "FRU 42T0725" (or one of the other 5 that I listed) printed on the label then it is "proper"? But a screen being sold that does not have "FRU (xxx)" is "garbage"? Or?
I know that T410's come with various suffix's (T410i, T410s, probably others). So "no-go" unless it's a plain-jane "T410"?

Not necessarily garbage, but not suitable for your purposes. You need a panel with a FRU #.binovc wrote: ...ok... and how would I know the difference? I'm reasonably certain that T410s maintains a different screen. T410i was offered only in 1280x800 AFAIK, but the screen is the same as on "standard" T410 with that resolution.I know that T410's come with various suffix's (T410i, T410s, probably others). So "no-go" unless it's a plain-jane "T410"?

Re: T410 screen replacement options
Still looking for a replacement screen.
I found a possible purchase that is a "Type 2522-BU3". Ours is the 2516-CTO.
But I don't see this listed on the Lenovo parts look-up, for either the "regular" WXGA (42T0725, 42T0729, 42T0733) or the higher resolution WXGA+ (42T0727, 42T0731, 42T0735).
The only other provided info for the potential screen is that it is a "LP141WP3".
I have asked the seller what the FRU number is, but they haven't responded yet.
Anybody shed light on if this screen is suitable, and what is the difference?
Thanks

Re: T410 screen replacement options
The machine type as in 2522 vs. 2537 vs. 2516 doesn't matter as long as we're dealing with a standard T410 and not one of its "S" cousins.
That seems to be the correct WXGA+ panel, made by LG Philips, see here:

Re: T410 screen replacement options
Thanks ajkula66.
So that is the WXGA+ screen.
My daughter seems to want the lower res screen, I think she's afraid the images/icons/text etc will be too small with the WXGA+ screen.
I told her from reading forum posts that most everyone seems to prefer the higher re screen.
So is her argument valid that the higher res screen would be more difficult to read because everything is smaller?

Re: T410 screen replacement options
I really can't answer that question but will say this much:
a) All 1280x800 panels that I've ever seen on T410 were outright garbage.
b) If your daughter has anything remotely resembling decent eyesight - corrected or not - she should be fine with 1440x900 on a 14" screen.
My $0.02 only...

Re: T410 screen replacement options
1440x900 is quite readable on the T410. If you do find everything to be a bit small, you can always bump up the DPI scaling to make everything bigger, usually without the loss of any image quality.

Re: T410 screen replacement options
I have a T420 with the 1600 X 900 and find it great and my mum has the 1440 X 900 T410 and can see it fine.

Re: T410 screen replacement options
I appreciate everyone's assistance. I pulled the trigger on the above screen (ebay). I'll report back on my daughter's ability to install it, and if she's happy with the resolution.
Re: T410 screen replacement options
My daughter received the new screen, and did not seem to have much difficulty installing it.
There seems to be a problem with the colors though. Not sure if the screen is defective, or if there is a screen setting that needs to be adjusted.
Was viewing a video I took at night. The "darks" are completely red.

This is very unnatural. The image does not look like that at all.
Now just looking at the desktop view, it looks fairly normal.
Comments please.

Re: T410 screen replacement options
The lcd cable could be loose. Try reseating the lcd cable ends at the screen and motherboard. Also, does this happen only in windows? Does the bios boot screen look normal?
Another thing to try would be to boot off of a linux live usbstick to see if you have the issues there. If the problem disappears, then the fault is within windows.

Re: T410 screen replacement options
I've encountered this a few times in other laptops, and it's usually a cable issue. As brchan has suggested, reseat the connectors. Inspect for any breaks in the cable.

Re: T410 screen replacement options
Well good news. Turns out it was the cable as you all suspected. One of the pins was bent. Straightened the pin, re-connected, and all is well!
Thanks to all!
