I just finished restoring from the HD just make sure that it worked. The restoration definitely took a long time, a lot longer than than the last HP that I owned. The IBM took about 1 hour while my HP took about half an hour.

It was quite a sight though, you could see all of the scripts reinstalling everything. At first, it started like an ordinary Windows XP load, but with each reboot, you could see more of the IBM customizing taking place.

Another thing that I noticed is that there is a lot of dust... that got attracted to my screen. Everytime I thought I had a dead pixel, I just took a cleaning cloth and cleaned the dust away. One thing that I have found a bit annoying is that the FlexView screen I have isn't perfectly let. The two lower corners are a little bit darker than the rest of the screen.

I've heard of people swearing that massaging the pixel gently may restore it. If you're suspicious you could try that!

Yeah massaging might work. Neon green sounds bad but I had one stuck pixel that was a light bluish grey. I gently messaged it in a swirling motion for about a minute and it went away never to return. This may be coincidence or it may work, but either way it will probably only work on stuck pixels not dead ones.

got my t42p last thursday morning 6/9 ... like redrumchoy's mine went from LOUISVILLE, KY to WATERTOWN, MA in two hours. had family visiting so i did not get to use it until sat night.

started it up, did not accept the microsoft windows or the lenovo license and the machine shut down, as expectd. booted with knoppix 3.9 and passed "screen=1400x1050 depth=24". the screen looks great and the machine is peppy, even when running from the cd. i'm planning on wiping it and installing gentoo this week.

dont get the pixel thing - whats the difference between stuck/dead?

idunno it changes colors sometimes (i.e. sometimes its there as black sometimes green blah blah and i dont mean depending on what background color is there... for example sometimes its stuck as green on white sometimes its black on white)

aw well this thing is fast ;)

A dead pixel would be a pixel that is always black, the transistor is dead completely. A stuck pixel on the other hand is one that is always on but displays an incorrect color, or stays the same color all the time.

2687-EJU ship date went from 8/8 to 8/9 to 8/10 since Friday. This is worse than trying to approach infinity. Apparently, it will always be 60+ days away and forever unattainable. A mirage in the desert. :x

Haha yes, same here for my 2687E4U (couldn't think of a reason I'd need the fingerprint reader, even if it was only $40 more). However I'm still holding fast to the hope that the rep was right about a late June ship date.

I don't NEED the fp reader either, but I'll probably keep this machine for a long time so I might as well get all the toys. My current notebook is an A21p that I've used for nearly five years.

Like you, I'm hoping the reps are more accurate about a 7/1 estimated ship date. I swore I wasn't going to get obsessed with the ship date, and would forget about it until the new machine arrived. But once the order was placed, I lost my head just like everyone else around here.

A dead pixel, in the "not working and never was working" sense would be white - since when a pixel is fully on, it's blocking the white backlight, giving a black pixel, and when it's fully off, it's allowing the white backlight through, giving (surprise) a white pixel.

I've had my Dell 8100 for 4 years. I still don't see any reason as a single user who can enter my password in the blink of an eye to need the fp reader. I've considered that as someone who likes all the doodads it would be nice to have, but it's just not something I see as being a real need now or in the future.

Who knows. I may change my mind, and if the order is delayed enough maybe I'll talk to the rep about changing the order from the E4U chassis to the EJU chassis. Of course that's assuming it would only be $40 more. It's not something I'm going to regret not having.

I started reading this thread before I ordered my thinkpad, My very first thinkpad nontheless..

I always had a good laugh, because of all the peoples comments that they were checking their order status and it has gone from "this status to that status" or it has shipped, and where its at in shipping... or whatever.
Just couldnt see how one could get so wrapped up in the "Order Status" of a computer, constantly checking your order status and where its at, come on...
.. Just couldnt see what the big deal was.....thought you were all mad or crazy !!

However....

That was before I ordered my very first thinkpad.....Guess What......

I WANT MY THINKPAD !!!!!!!

When I ordered it said on the Lenovo site... --Available 2-4 weeks.---
Rep said when I ordered that the way things have been going that it would be more like a week.. but when I checked my order status later that same night it said ..." Your product is currently back ordered, please call for further information" and it has been like that since..
However today I noticed that the Lenovo site now says "within 2 weeks".
My order status hasnt changed, still backordered.

So whats your feelings on my "Backordered "-"Order Status" and what can I expect?..
How long do I have to wait !!!!, it is listed as a "new" model on the lenovo site

By the way I have to admit that I have checked my order status every morning and night since ordered..So i guess that officially makes me one of those happy "mad/crazy people"

HaHaHa..

 Welcome to the club

Just keep checking, and I seriously suggest to keep bugging them over the phone, keep calling in and requesting updates; when is it coming, what does this mean, why is this like that, is it possible to accelerate shipping, etc etc. nicely of course.

The more you stay on top of it, the more they are going to help you all the more faster you'll receive your TP.

Good Luck! The fun's only beginning 8)

Well, I just got an email that my ThinkPad shipped as of 7 PM this evening :D. I ordered the 2668H2U. I had another model on order, but I was looking at the website on Thursday night of last week, and noticed that they had 9 'H2U's in stock. When I called on Friday morning they had 2 left. That was a close one. I placed my order and had some doubts that I actually got one. Evidently, I did. Anyway, my TP is on it's way.

I have read with delight all the posts in this thread. If my laptop really shipped this evening, when can I actually expect it? The tracking receipt does say next day PM. I know I can't expect this thing tomorrow, June 14th (Tuesday). Is it possible I'll get it Wednesday the 15th, or is Thursday the 16th more reasonable (just according to everyone's experience)? For what it's worth, I'm in Seattle, WA.

Looking forward to my new TP!

hahahha :(

Anyways my one dead/stuck pixel wont go away and its glaring at me everytime i turn on this thing.... a NEON GREEN on black screens which makes movies/games unbearable lol

So called customer service, gave me a return number gonna do an exchange so guess what
i wont have a thinkpad for another like 3 weeks at least since the G2U is still backorderd....

If it were any other model i probably wouldnt be doing this but for the top of the line 14.1 inch thinkpad which alist price of 3500 bucks i'd like it to be perfect.

Well, now. My 2687-EJU status just changed to "packing", for which the definition is: "Lenovo expects to ship all items by the date shown". That date is still 8/10.

I guess Lenovo packs VERY carefully. :P

EJU status went from "packing" to "backordered" with estimated shipping on 8/11.

Human on phone says it's being configured now.

What?

Well, it seems that it has taken almost two full days to get from Hong Kong to Ontario, CA this afternoon. I am supposed to take delivery tomorrow morning by 10:30 am, but from what someone else posted on this forum, there seems to be a bigger delay for customs going through Ontario as compared to Louisville. Geez. I notice also that my status says: Exception. This means that my package(s) will not be delivered on time. I'm disappointed!

Somehow I have a glimmer of hope that I'll wake up in the morning only to see that my package has been whisked through customs and is already in Seattle, ready for delivery. I'll cross my fingers anyway! ...

Well, I ordered a T43 (2687-DSU) tonight! It's the EXACT same laptop as the 2668-72U which I was looking at, except it comes with the 9-cell battery instead of the 6-cell as on the 72U & it's a couple hundred cheaper! Go figure!

I'm kinda [censored] though as lenovo raised the price of the 4yr TPP & 9x5 NBD warranty $92 tonight! It seems all the EPP warranties got cut from 30% discount to 10% discount. If I'd only ordered yesterday!

Oh well, I still feel like I got the better side of the deal with the DSU over the 72U, plus the extra battery capacity!

BTW, ship date says 6/29/05

All, now I undertand the agony you've had waiting for your system(s). I have placed an order yesterday for my T43 and am checking like crazy the order status page to see if something changes - from contact to packaging or whatever!

Can you guys share your experiences on how long did it take for you to recieve your system(s) after you had placed the order. Thanks a bunch!

Get out, really.... I didn't even notice that :D . I just thought it would be nice and easier if someone of the people on these six pages could just say: it took me 2 weeks, or 1 week, or whatever, instead of me having to go through all the users and start adding the time from when they placed the order to when they received. Anyways, thanks for the tip that this thread is about that!

Anybody else, if you don't mind to share I would really appreciate it! Thanks all.

Hi,

I have been a lurker for a while, but this is my first post.

I bought a T43p 2668-G7U on June 14th. The Lenovo website order tracker says that it shipped June 16th by UPS 2nd day air.

Based on the experiences of others, do people think that the 2nd day delivery (i.e. June 20) is a reasonable expectation, or is it likely to be held up at customs ?

Thanks!

Hi, when you placed your order June 14th, what was the status of your order... estimated shipping date?

Thanks, I appreciate for the reply!

One way, just see the 1st thread when it was posted, then you'll see when pple started queueing for their thinkpads.

Anyway, it took 2 mths (end Mar ordered, collected early Jun). Mainly because of the transfer of production to Lenovo. Now the queue seems much much shorter (I think).

felipeudel,

On June 14th, the estimated ship date was June 28th. So I was hopeful when it went into "Packing" on June 15th, and then pleasantly surprised when it shipped on June 16th.

The EPP Sales Rep did tell me that as long as I picked a standard configuration (2668-G7U in this case), and didn't customize it in any way, things should move quickly.

Thanks a bunch. Sorry, I didn't answer your question. I ordered a system before, and took about 4 days after the system was shipped from China - it was delayed for a full day on customs. Now, this system I ordered was a custom build system so I expect the longer processing time.

Once more, thanks for the replies.
