Its not a time in the future per-se, its because the laptop is in Honk Kong (probably Kowloon if you check) and becuase they are nearly a day ahead by time zones you will see some wacky times in your shipping log. It'll take 4 or 5 days for the laptop to reach you, even though it claims express delivery they don't count time in customs on international shipping. Chances are you laptop will be in customs from 2 days up to a week. Anyhow at least it is on its way.

Wait until UPS gets it, and then the tracking system will also provide you with a pretty accurate estimated delivery date. That estimation has always predicted when I'd get it, or is actually a day late (meaning I got my package one day before the system said I would).

I don't have experience with UPS international shipping, but FedEx almost always clears customs in just a few hours. That could be because FedEx clears customs in Oakland for my area and they might be more "loose."

I live in Oakland, my laptop went through Anchorage Alaska, then went to customs in Ontario, CA for customs, took about 2 days to clear then came on up to the bay overnight.

Wow, that's pretty good timing... you said that your confirmation email told you the estimated ship date was 6/8, and it started on 6/7. At least it's not late. Hopefully this means mine will also be sent on 6/14 (or 6/13, like you).

Maybe for those that are seeing the "UPS Next Day PM" shipment type this is what happened:

Lenovo will choose the method of transportation based on customer location and other factors. Shipments may be delayed due to many circumstances If you have ordered a 2 Business Day, 1 Business Day, or Priority Next Business Day option and the carrier does not deliver the product within that time frame, then Lenovo will refund the difference in price between the shipping option you selected.

The above is a direct quote from the IBM/Lenovo website...

Mayhaps they upgraded our shipping? booyea to that.. we'll see by tommorow!

shipping date

#69 Post by jarbill » Tue Jun 07, 2005 10:59 pm

I ordered a 2687DDU on 5/31/05. The estimated shipping date at first was 6/28/05. Checked the IBM website every day. 6/5/05, it said "In process". Yesterday (6/6/05), it went from "In process" to "Shipped". I guess they skipped the "Packed" part. Got an email this a.m. stating "Shipped" with tracking number. Not too shabby. Haven't been able to track it too much, though. So far all it says is Kowloon, HK pickup by UPS. It also stated next day P.M. shipping.

Called UPS today to ask about the service type...

The notebook is being shipped from Hong Kong with the service type "Express." According to the UPS Customer Service Rep., my shipment (placed on the 7th) has a guaranteed shipment to my door by 10:30 a.m. June 9th (as long as it clears custom normally). That's pretty darn impressive - Hong Kong billing info recieved at 3:10 a.m. EST and arrive here in about 35 hours? Not to shabby for their mid-level shipping option and props to IBM/Lenovo for upgrading my UPS Ground service!

For those who are bored tracking UPS. try and lookup the various parts in your laptop using the ibm website and the serial number which they must have provided.

I have a Hydis display/ Fujitsu HDD ( no clicking!!) / ALPS keyb ( chinese ) and Sanyo battery!

Im a constant traveler in NewEngland region.. work in Boston, but have houses in NH, and Maine and a shop in North Mass.. Brookline is just below Boston, so I wouldn't be surprised redrum if they're on the same truck! :D 8)

Meanwhile, I have a Chinese keyboard, Samsung display, and Sanyo battery. I don't know what ASM PCC multi-burner means.. and I assume the hard drive labelled HGST is a Hitachi..

Edit: Shoot, wife's getting the Thai keyboard... hope she likes it.

Cheers! 8)

I also chose UPS Ground, but got ups next day pm. I'm located in New York City, so I'm also in New England. I wasn't even expecting this either.. I just decided to check.

Now, where can we locate our parts using our serial number?

Well, I guess that UPS hasn't yet picked up the next set of shipping crates (or however ty pack them for shipping) yet from the distribution point. I wonder if we'd be picked up at the same time...

I have a Sony 9 cell, Samsung display, ALPS keyboard (that's the Chinese one, right?). redrum, my hard drive is this: "60GB HARD DRIVE, HGST, MORAGA-C60:HARD D"

It's a hitachi hard drive (HGST = hitachi global storage technologies) or, if you want to think the old fashioned way, an IBM hard drive (ibm sold their hard drive division to hitachi last year or two years ago). What I don't understand is why the hard drive is labeled "NOTAFRU" and also "NO[T]" serviceable. Does that mean we can't replace it by ourselves or something?

My has a FRU number, but is also labeled "NO" under the serviceable column.

This is what you guys will see. It will look like it is stuck in HK but in reality it is moving. Then once it gets to the U.S. it will have a "delay" which is just a few hours. Then it will smooth sailing, unless its a weekend, in which case it will sit there.

Thanks for the heads up bigndude. We would've been freaking out over this for the next day if we didn't know. =)

I wonder why shipping these computers is considered a "live entry." What would constitute a "dead entry"? :D

Thanks bigndude, that's makes sense now..

Im assuming then that from Kowloon Bay it's flown to Kentucky. My battery made the same stop in Lousiville for customs.. this must be a central checkpoint. Ive seen other members who've had theirs trucked through Alaska and Canada finally into the US. Interesting..

Hong Kong to Ancorage, AK to Louisville, KY. The extra stop in Alaska is because cargo weighs much more than people and thus requires lots of extra gas for the planes.

For those of you who can track yours already...does the guaranteed delivery time indicate 10:30 AM or nothing at all (I know fedex gives this)? I hope it is 10:30 because otherwise I will have to wait until after 5 pm when the UPS guy usually gets to my house with the stuff that isnt time definite. I wish that Lenovo would use FedEx because they have much better international shipping, as well as domestic.

Do cases also ship from Hong Kong?

Live entry??? They must have included some zoo animals with your Thinkpad!

Mine stopped at Anchorage at exactly the same time redrumchoy's did. I was hoping for an estimated delivery date, but I guess UPS hasn't posted one since my package hasn't cleared customs. Or maybe it's because it's international... if there isn't an estimated delivery date after it gets through Kentucky, I'm going to assume that UPS doesn't provide estimates for international packages.

Oh yea, and I also figured that the "live entry" thing is a customs procedure to quarantine international packages to see if there are any foreign, uh, pests within the package. The way a lot of pests that orginated in Asia got into the US was by finding homes in the wood of shipping crates for the journey.
