BSOD after updating BIOS and ATI drivers on T42-2379DXU

#1 Post by zelchenko » Thu May 26, 2005 7:53 am

I recently ran the latest "Recommended" updates in the ThinkCenter Software Installer, including the one for the BIOS and ATI video drivers. When booting, I get an instantaneous BSOD referencing "ati2dvag.dll", which only stays up for a second and then reboots again. I can get no further unless I select "Last Known Good" configuration at boot. However, now I'm not able to use the ATI control panel. Is any one else having this problem? Is it the new drivers causing the problem or is it some incompatibility with the BIOS update? Any ideas?

I use a T42 all the time, use the Software Installer all the time...no errors...

Was your previous driver from IBM? Or was it a generic install from a non factory copy of XP, or something taken from ATI's site? Or even worse, something previously recommended by Windows Update? (never trust drivers from Windows Update)

I have always used the Software Installer. The machine is less than 2 months old. This is the first time I've had a problem.

Well, the problem seems fixed now. I wouldn't be able to reproduce it now because IBM released another video update and I installed it as well. I remembered that I had turned off all accelerations at some point. I turned accelerations back on and reinstalled the control panel and rebooted--no blue screen. Then I ran the software installer and saw that IBM had released another new BIOS update and ATI install, so I installed it. Everything seems fine now.
