T520 HD+ to FHD display upgrade

#1 Post by that1nerd » Mon Jan 05, 2015 11:55 am

Currently, my T520 has an HD+ display, but I'm curious as to what's available for it, as far as FHD displays go.

I'm not considering an upgrade at the moment, but in the event that my current display ends up being cracked by some unknown force , I'd rather upgrade than replace.

What specific panel would you guys recommend? Would it be a simple panel swap, or would I need a new cable? I want to be sure of any pitfalls beforehand, to avoid as much headache as possible.
My "daily drivers":

T520 (4240-48u) - Core i7 2620m (2.7GHz), 8GB RAM, 80GB mSATA SSD, 1TB HDD, nVidia NVS 4200m (Optimus)
T43p (2668-VQ7) - 2.26GHz Pentium M, 2 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD, Radeon Mobility FireGL V3200

You don't need a new cable.

The FHD panel found on most of these machines was made by AUO, and is considered to be very good by most users. However, it has been out of production for a while and is not an easy find.

LG Philips offers an IPS FHD LCD that will work in these laptops as well.

Thanks.

Would you happen to have a part/model number for that LG Philips panel?

So... It's between $80-$120 for both panels, but there are quite a lot of Chinese knock-offs floating around out there.

Considering that they're also discontinued, I should probably buy one now as a spare before they go up in price.

Thanks for the help.
