Not to mention the potential damage that can be incurred when (improperly) handling a bare motherboard. Coupled that with any errors that could happen when performing surgery, both from the donor and then going into the new body. That could lead to finger-pointing when things don't go right (i.e., "well the board was good when I shipped it").

Guys, I agree and decided to buy board with the bottom case. Can I get fireGL board if my screen is sxga+ 1400x1050 ?

After thinking again, is it possible that both ram sticks became faulty at once? I just don't have spare stick to check (I have older only pc-2700 or newer from T420). When I boot the PC, I see that display powers on, indicator lights also power. If it is planar, wouldn't it be completely dead?

And if it was failure of the ATI video card, I suppose I wouldn't see display powering on, right? Any thoughts how to check what exactly failed?
