TRADING: Dell Server OS for a Win 8 Lenovo OS.

#1 Post by Smokestoomuch » Sun Jan 18, 2015 1:46 pm

I'd like to test-drive the Win 8 because I hear tell it has improved tablet software. If you have a Win 8 OS that you don't want/like, I'd like to swap you.

I have Win 7 Professional OS in three different flavors, Lenovo, HP and Dell. I'll offer you any combination of (3) of those COA's.

OR

One Dell Windows Server COA. The COA sticker reads:
WindowsServerR08 Std 1-4cpu

is this 2008 or 2008 R2?   standard or enterprise?

I cannot tell you about the R2. It doesn't say R2 anywhere on the tag. As I so listed, it does have the letters "Std" on the tag, so I would guess its Standard.

oh, duh, i completely missed the "Std" text.   i have plenty of standard licenses already.   if this were 2008 R2 enterprise i'd be all over it.

still not sure if the "R08" translates to "R2" or not.   if it's R2 then it would make someone a good trade if they need a server OS.

The "R" on the tag is actually a circled R, much the way @ is a circled a. Usually, that means Registered Trademark but I have no idea what it means in this context.

ahh, that's a trademark.   sounds like it might be the original 2008 (vista-based) and not R2 (7-based).   the best way to tell would either be the date or knowing the exact dell server model where it was installed.

I'm just a guy who bought a page of COA stickers. LOL I have NO idea what machines these stickers were removed from. Sorry I couldn't help.

If you just want to test-drive for a few days, I think you don't need to actually activate Windows 8. When you are installing 8, just bypass the step that prompts you to enter the product key. You can download Windows 8 for free and legally as explained here: http://www.howtogeek.com/186775/how-to- ... a-legally/
