X201 Ethernet not working EEPROM corrupted

Hello all,

I purchased a x201 and the Ethernet port does not work. At boot up I get a message the "PXE-E05: The LAN adapter's configuration is corrupted or has not been initialized" My understanding is that the EEPROM is corrupted and since it is on the board cannot be flashed and repaired hence the only option is a new motherboard.

I have tried flashing with Bootutil and IBautil and updating the windows driver.

Anyone tried it or other ideas other than not using the Ethernet connection?

Hello all,

With all that experience out there there must be ideas on how to repair or is it just not feasible to get Ethernet back on this board?

I did peruse many of the forum conversations using the Intel Preboot software and nothing worked I presume because the controller is on the MB.

Any thoughts appreciated?

Have you tried booting a "live" linux USB/CD and verify whether the LAN works in that environment?

Yes, I actually have Ubuntu installed on the machine and the Ethernet does not work. I did find the solution I noted above on how to modify a Linux driver to do a work around the issue. I have not tried that mod but it would still leave W7 without usable Ethernet.

Hmmm...a PCMCIA card comes to mind, rather than wasting one's time on tampering with drivers or swapping the motherboard...

I thought of that, just not as elegant as solving the problem. However that might be the answer or the problem could become an excuse to find an i-7
motherboard.

I read 3 or 4 years ago (or something like that) that some linux firmware or driver corrupted the EEPROM of certain LAN adapters. This was a bug in the software and there were warnings issued as soon as it was discovered. This may be what happened to your LAN adapter.
