Solaris 2.5.1 PPC compiler wanted (TP 850)

Hey folks,

Myself and a few other people I know are looking for the Solaris 2.5.1 *PowerPC* compiler for some ThinkPad 850s. Given that the OS itself has very little software as it is, there were a few things I wanted to compile for it. I'd be willing to buy or pay for the software if anyone has it.

Yeah yeah, I know. Finding that specific compiler is like finding an Apple Lisa or a Jupiter-8 at a goodwill, but it exists somewhere.

Let me look through my library this weekend. I found the license key and install media for AIX C compiler (xlC) 1.3.

I know I have SunOS 4 images.

I'm sorry. I'm not finding anything in my personal collection. I found old links for the English OS install media online in Russia, but I'm not going to attempt to chase after it.

I do have a copy of Solaris 2.5.1 PowerPC Edition, so if you need a copy of that let me know.

The Solaris PowerPC compiler (which was also used to compile the OS itself) is the elusive bit.

The winworld link is just the download the operating system itself.

On that note, the wayback page states this:

Solaris PowerPC Edition Subscription Service
Solaris 2.5.1 PowerPC Edition Operating Environment
Solaris 2.5.1 Software Developer Kit (SDK)
Sun WorkShop for C++ PowerPC Edition Early Access

So the compiler would have been part of the SDK no doubt (the sun workshop for C++ PPC is also interesting, humorously 'early access' and probably died like that).

The compiler isn't present on the betaarchives (and my recommendations would be to not engage anyone there). I'll just have to wait and see if anyone has the SDK packages from 1996 for sale. Heh, by that time my TP 850 is going to be a major dinosaur.

Unfortunately nothing (if I did have a copy I'd be distributing it to all of the 850 owners I know of; all two of them :p ).

Only thing that's come up on ebay was an x86 version of solaris 2.5.1

It's a lost cause. Nobody has it and it's forgotten to the sands of time.

Best just to stick with AIX 4.2.1 on the 850.
