Mechanical keyboard with TrackPoint
Not Lenovo/IBM or ThinkPad, but I thought it might interest some of you anyway:
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/tex-yoda
It's a massdrop so it won't ship until ~April 2nd, and even then there will be a very long shipping time as it goes to their warehouse first.
Choice of cherry MX switches and apparently you can alter it to have an ISO layout.
I'd love to get one, but I can't really see me ever using a TrackPoint on a desktop PC.

Re: Mechanical keyboard with TrackPoint
Looks pretty good. Would love to see Lenovo put a mechanical keyboard into a thinkpad, but that is a .1% chance.

Re: Mechanical keyboard with TrackPoint
Really? I used to have an IBM desktop keyboard with TrackPoint, and it was wonderful. I used it with desktops and notebooks in a docking station. Right now, I have one of the travel keyboards with TrackPoint that's attached to my work notebook in a dock with another monitor attached.fleming164 wrote:I can't really see me ever using a TrackPoint on a desktop PC.

Re: Mechanical keyboard with TrackPoint
I have used one of the T410 style USB keyboards for the last years, and like it so much that I bought a spare one while they were still available. I use it with a KVM switch to control most of the stuff in my home office.JaneL wrote:Really? I used to have an IBM desktop keyboard with TrackPoint, and it was wonderful. THINKPAD collector. Only missing a proper RetroThinkpad.

Re: Mechanical keyboard with TrackPoint
Me too. I just ordered a couple of the Travel USB keyboards- the one I have been using for a looong time has the letters worn off the keys. I also use mine through a KVM switch - one to my T61p, and one to a normal PC - works a treat.Norway Pad wrote:I have used one of the T410 style USB keyboards for the last years, and like it so much that I bought a spare one while they were still available. Re: Mechanical keyboard with TrackPoint
Me too, bought a ThinkPad USB keyboard with trackpoint just before they disappeared, the arrival of the new Lenovo keyboard for USB made me panic.
It is compatible with T410/420 TW510/520 style keyboards, so be sure to collect a few spares.

Re: Mechanical keyboard with TrackPoint
I wonder if one would be used to the tactile feel of the switches for the TrackPoint.
I don't think that one very special Model M had buckling springs for the TrackPoint, but rubber domes, no?
Very cool unit, if only I had my tax return...

Re: Mechanical keyboard with TrackPoint
Does anybody feel that a good dedicated mouse is better than the trackpoint? I feel the trackpoint is superior to a touchpad, and especially excels at work that requires frequently moving of the cursor and use of the keyboard. However, for tasks such as web browsing, where you use the cursor most of the time, a good mouse can't be beat.

Re: Mechanical keyboard with TrackPoint
The only reason why I have a table mouse is for gaming, I use the trackpoint for everything else.
Well ok, in FL studio I do use the table mouse from time to time.

By 'very special Model M', do you mean M13?Saucey wrote:I wonder if one would be used to the tactile feel of the switches for the TrackPoint.

M13 does not use buckling spring switches in pointer buttons. I did not take mine apart, so I do not know what kind of switch was used. Be careful what you covet for: M13 uses original TrackPoint II mechanism, not enhanced TrackPoint IV.
Let us know whether or not it is vapour, as Miniguru.fleming164 wrote:Not Lenovo/IBM or ThinkPad, but I thought it might interest some of you anyway:

TrackPoint has not evolved one bit since a decade and a half. TrackPoint is as dead as ThinkPad.
