Does Flexview Screen = No finger-touch screen?

This week I purchased an X60 Tablet, model 6363. According to the Thnkpad manual, the 6363 X60's are all finger touch models but it's only coming up "pen available". I loaded Win 7 along with every Lenovo finger touch (aka, multitouch) driver I could find... still no go on the finger touch.

I did check the board in the bios screen and it does say the board is a 6363, The screen is a low resolution 1024 x 768, which also indicates it might be a finger touch screen. I took the screen off and mounted it on a high-resolution X61 Tablet and the screen still has a max res of only 1024 x 768.

However, this screen DOES ALSO say "wide angle flexview". Weren't screen either wide-angle Flexview or finger touch but never both? Is there such an animal as a low-res non-finger Flexview screen for the X60 Tablet? Thanks for any help.

I have two X61 tablets with multitouch and flexview. I had some driver issues getting the multitouch to work. For Windows 7, I had to do a fresh install and install the smaller driver file first, make sure it worked and then install the larger of the two driver files lenovo has for windows 7. The second one gives you more options but the first one was all that was needed to get the touch feature to work.

Yes. Actually a vast majority of panels seen on X6x tablets are of this variety.

All X6x tablets leave factory with flexviews. I have seen some samsung nonIPS LCD "compatible with HV121X03-100" on ebay, but it is knockoffs!!!

All pen only screens have glass LCD surface and finger touch have plastic one. If you can determine surface type you can identify is it touchable for sure.
BTW glass is more rugged surface and it get scratches less than plastic.

All X6x tablet panels can be penabled or pen and touch. It is mentioned in HMM that SXGA+ LCD can be only penabled... But some days ago i have grepped twistero's MTM database for X61 tablets and found some "1400x1050 LCD Touch Screen" models. Ex 7763-V1L.

May be this is bug in database and we can't check it out because original Lenovo lookup is gone But may be some of Thinkpadders have one of this model and can confirm (or disconfirm;) this.

X61 models are very interesting because it have some easter eggs that not mentioned in HHMs - like T9300 CPU or this mysterious SXGA+touch.

OK, so first of all, "Flexview" is not an official term in LCD technology. It is a marketing term used by IBM/Lenovo to denote certain types of wide-view-angle (typically IPS) screens.

If you check the X6x Tablet sections in the PSREF documents, the term "Flexview" does not appear even once.

You are right, that screens by Hydis, Toshiba (TMD) and Samsung were used. Hydis screens were IPS (FFS), Samsung screens were PVA, not sure about Toshiba.

According to the X60 Tablet PSREF, some models actually were shipped with TN screens. This was supposedly during a period of shortage of FFS panels. However, I have never witnessed such a model firsthand.

Again, according to the PSREF, all X61 Tablet screens were wide viewing angle screens (170 degree), whether they had multi-touch capable digitizers or not.

I have one XGA pen only with glass surface + one XGA finger touch with plastic. Somewhere on the shelves is lives SXGA with glass surface.

And there are no factory built SXGA+ with finger touch.

If you ever take those apart, I would be very interested in pictures of the backside and the edge of the displays.

Ok - if I can find free time and effort I'll disassemble XGA pen only screen. It is interesting what inside the black box

You have made good article about X6x screens ... but don't understand last sentence:

What does not fit: Toshiba LTD121KM7K SXGA +. This display can be used in any Thinkpad.

Is this mean that SXGA+ can be added to normal X6x (X6xs) withoud cable adaptors? But i understand that this is TN:(
I have looked photos of LTD121KM7K (at panelook) and it is something strange:( But LTD121KM2M (is brother of LTD121KM7K) have normal shape...

No. That translation is messed up. It will not work in any thinkpad.

The Toshiba SXGA+ needs dual LVDS and therefore has a 30 pin connector. All X6 only have single channel LVDS.

And it does not have an EDID chip. The XGA Toshibas from that time also do not have them, making identification with software difficult. But an SXGA+ without an EDID chip in a Thinkpad X6x will only be a frustrating experience.
