Requesting photo of T60-series roll-cage structure
Hi all. Hope you're all doing well, been a while since I've been on here.
I'm doing a report on Thinkpads, and I'm looking to find a photo that shows the roll-cage structure of a T60-series machine. Ideally this photo should show both the roll-cage in the display assembly and in the body of the machine itself. For me to be able to use a such picture, I would need appropriate rights to use the photo, which You will have to write in a PM to me, that I have. This is also why I cannot simply find a photo on Google's Image search.
I hope you can help me out here, as I haven't got a T60-series machine atm, and the report is due this Tuesday.
Ideally, the picture would look somewhat like this, but if it just shows the base of the PC, it will still be plenty, as I just want to show the structure of it.

Sincerely,
Frederik

T60 does not have a roll-cage in the lid.
But the T61 and some other, newer models have one.

Re: Requesting photo of T60-series roll-cage structure
T61 and T400/T-W500 had lid rollcages, T-Wx10 and later generations dropped it (not sure about the new x550 series)
I have a picture I could give you for further use, but you only see the mainboard rollcage, the LCD one is not visible... It was during a LCD swap to a T500 or T61, I don't remember now which one was exactly

Re: Requesting photo of T60-series roll-cage structure
Appreciate your answer. It doesn't matter if it's a T60, T61, T500, W500 or whatever else laptop has this configuration. I just want to show off the special hexagonic shapes of it, I already included a picture of the one in my T410 with the square holes, but the T6X was where it started for me, hence I want to show the original roll-cage off.
Tasurinchi, could I use that photo you are speaking of in my report? It won't be published anywhere public. The mainboard rollcage is more than plenty for what I need.

PM me your email.
I have boxes of empty T61 shells! (leftovers from the dozens of Frankenpads I have built)
I'll take some pix for you.

What?! I hope by 'rollcage' you don't mean magnesium, as the T60 most *definitely* has magnesium in the lid...RealBlackStuff wrote:T60 does not have a roll-cage in the lid.

There was also an article of one fellow who stood on his T60 with metal toed industrial boots. Didn't flex a bit.
Re: Requesting photo of T60-series roll-cage structure
The T60 (14" only, AFAIK) indeed has magnesium in the lid, but not a roll cage.
This is how a T61 LCD roll cage looks:

Re: Requesting photo of T60-series roll-cage structure
Ah that would make sense as I don't touch the 15" T60s (too chunky and not as 'compact' feeling if that makes sense).dr_st wrote:The T60 (14" only, AFAIK) indeed has magnesium in the lid, but not a roll cage.

I actually prefer the magensium *slab* in the T60 opposed to the preforated T61 rollcage. It's going to withstand punctures more reliably and allows less flexing. And if you ever wanted to catch it on fire, it would be a lot more spectacular.
Re: Requesting photo of T60-series roll-cage structure
T60 14.1" lids feel much nicer vs the plastic on magnesium frame of the T61 lids. However, T61 lids have been quite a bit stiffer than T60 lids in my experience.I actually prefer the magensium *slab* in the T60 opposed to the preforated T61 rollcage. It does. However, it has IPS screen options, which at the time was (and in many ways still is) the biggest selling point of the 15" model.micrex22 wrote:Ah that would make sense as I don't touch the 15" T60s (too chunky and not as 'compact' feeling if that makes sense).

Re: Requesting photo of T60-series roll-cage structure
Depends, I'm more interested in the higher resolution aspects than the IPS aspects. IPS isn't good on a laptop for two reasons: #1 the clarity of the IPS monitor provides less privacy (as someone a mile away can see it pretty well), #2 uses more power. Having said that, 1400x1050 is a fantastic resolution still. All factors considered, the superior form factor of 14" wins me over.dr_st wrote:It does. Re: Requesting photo of T60-series roll-cage structure
(1) is not true and is a generally ridiculous claim, and (2) is very much true, but on average I would rather have a good display than 30 more minutes of battery life.

Re: Requesting photo of T60-series roll-cage structure
Viewing angle distortion of TN displays is exemplified on ATMs and other machines, so yes-- a non-IPS screen does provide more privacy.dr_st wrote:(1) is not true and is a generally ridiculous claim, and (2) is very much true, but on average I would rather have a good display than 30 more minutes of battery life.
