Windows Error Code 800705B3 When Updating Conexant - Audio

#1 Post by ThinkpadGeezer » Tue Jan 27, 2015 10:15 am

I had recently replaced the harddrive on a T400 running Windows 7 and restored an image that was a bit dated. I used Windows Update to download patches and used a mixture of Lenovo downloads and Windows update to ensure all of the drivers were current. Everything works except for the soundcard. Unfortunately the process uninstalled the existing working driver and now cannot install a driver.

Conexant - Audio - Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD

When Windows Update runs on this, the error code given is "800705B3." Preliminary research shows it seems to be a common issue that is rights related and affects a lot of different hardware vendors. The common theme seems to be lack of rights (user has admin rights) or a need to reinstall from scratch.

When I run the Lenovo installer, I get an error but no more details. Has anyone had this issue before? I am not sure what the cause is and am having difficult troubleshooting. A clean install seems a bit drastic.

System restore, or roll back the driver.
Daily driver: X220 4291-P79 i5-2520M

In reserve: X61 T7500, X60 T2300
In pieces: X60s CS U1300 [board only], two retired but working X61Ts
RIP: 760XD 9546-U9E

Thanks for the quick reply. For some reason the roll-back button is grayed out. I installed and configured a lot of software and neglected to create a restore point after restoring the image. (rookie mistake I admit but I was in a hurry). Is there a quick and dirty way to manually install the driver by coping the files to the correct locations?

Neither:

6ea118ww.exe
6ea160ww.exe

will work from the Lenovo support website.

I am running Windows 7 32 bit. When you run the exe, the program unzips to C:\Drivers\Audio and the relevent number of files is small:

CHDRT32.sys
CX32TP17.dll
DIFxAPI.dll
ISAPSII.inin
Setup.exe
tpunherx.cat
TPUNHERx.inf
UCI32A42.dll
UCI32A42.exe

When I try to manually configure it through device manager, I get the following error message:

"This operation requires an interactive window (sic?) session"

I understand this is a blanket Windows security precaution; the frustration is the windows updater caused the issue itself. In the older versions of windows you could manually configure it by copying the files to the appropriate places. Is that, or something similar, a viable option?

Well this is weird. I get the "interactive session error" from above when I manually selected the driver. It I point it to the directory with files and have it run the install automatically, the error I get is:

"The system cannot find the file specified"

Is one of the later windows updates conflicting with the driver install? It is almost as if it cannot write to or read from a temporary directory.

Scratching my head on this one.
