t430 dark screen after replacement

#1 Post by paulmuzza » Thu Jan 29, 2015 2:26 pm

I replaced the screen that I bought from ebay. Following a tutorial on you tube managed to change the screen. At start up the computer boots up but the screen is very dark and just about see the password log on screen. The computer works ok on an external monitor. I have.replaced the screen cable, no good. Tried removing the battery and pressing the on button 10 times and then for 30 seconds. I have also removed the lead from the back up battery and replaced it after 30 seconds. Have you any other suggestions and could you keep very easy to understand as I am very new to computers

Many thanks

Paul

Welcome to the forum!

Does your "new" screen have a Lenovo FRU # on the back of the panel?

There is no FRU# on the back of the screen only a model # B140XW03

I'm afraid that's the cause of your problem!
I bet that the eBay seller ripped you off with a "fully compatible" screen.
Unfortunately Thinkpads almost exclusively need IBM/Lenovo approved screens with an IBM/Lenovo P/N or FRU.
Anything else is practically useless.
Return it for a refund,
I hope you didn't blow any fuses or did any other damage to your motherboard.

Come to think of it, the B140XW03 screen would be for a T420, which uses different screens than a T430.
