SXGA mod: X61s or X61 tablet?

#1 Post by mdancer » Mon Feb 02, 2015 4:14 am

My T60 frankenpad with X9100 cpu started to die, so I've gave a try to X61s and X61 tablet. I've ordered SXGA matrix on taobao and converter cable http://www.pchub.com/uph/laptop/503-126 ... erter.html for SXGA mod. The initial idea was to mod X61s since it is lighter.

I'm wondering if upgrading X61 tablet would be easier? Is there any incomparability issues with wacom digitizer for different resolutions? Should I make lcd cable mod for the tablet? If you know some relevant link post it here please.

If you want an X61 Tablet with SXGA+, just buy an X61 Tablet with SXGA+. No modding is required - this was one of the stock configurations on the tablet.

Edit:That is, unless multi-touch (finger) capabilities are required. Then it will require some modding, I guess.

No. The digitizer does not care about the resolution.
Should I make lcd cable mod for the tablet?
No. The tablet cable has the pinout for the HV121P01-101 / -100.

Thank you guys. X61T SXGA is hard to find and prices on ebay are quite high. My T61T + Screen would be less that 200 USD with shipping. So I'll warm up with X61T upgrade and then we will see.

If you are aiming for an SXGA+ screen on an X61T, then you should be aware that many people ran into issues with the original SXGA+ screens on the X61T series: there were reports of the "glue" running a bit and causing bubbles to appear. Apparently, the glue (or method) they used to bond the digitizer to the glass or whatever was different than in the X60T series. I understand that there is also a difference in the reflective surface between the X60T and X61T. Many people prefer the X60T SXGA+ version, which is a straight swap on an X61T.

I heard about this. I guess I still can use the screen in X61s if this happen. I'm not really sure from which model is digitizer in the screen I ordered.
