T431s FP Reader on newer ThinkPads (like T440s)

#1 Post by doubledown » Sat Feb 07, 2015 2:10 pm

My boss has a T431s. It looks exactly like the T440s except it's Ivy Bridge. Well, the other day I noticed he powered that machine up and logged into Windows by swiping his finger and I realized it has an Authentec FP reader.

Has anyone tried taking that FRU and putting it into a T440/T440s and seeing if you can power on from a swipe. The BIOS of the newer machines still has a feature "Predesktop Authentication"

The question is, how good is this Authentec reader. Because one thing I always notice when using an older model like my X301 or the T420: Their FP-readers are not as precise and you often need to re-swipe to log in. Thats much better on the T440s.

I'll give you that. I just miss the power on from a swipe of my X201s
