Stereo mix - Lenovo x200 Conexant HD Audio
Hi. I want to know - Is there a solution like patching the driver for Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD, that could enable stereo mix or in other words - "Record what I hear"? I know that this feature is disabled(on purpose?). But I also read that some users using patched drivers successfully enabled this feature.

no clue about patching driver, but... VAC?

(I remember using it years ago for different purposes -- it's a bit clunky and not easy to get used to, but it works...)

I have never found any way of patching the Stereo Mix feature back in, but one of the Microsoft developers published a simple workaround. I could never get it to work, but he has updated it, code and executables at

I'd be interested to know if anyone tries this.
I actually use a program called Total Recorder. I paid the fairly small price for the standard edition in 2006 and have updated it many times and across several generations of machine and OS since then. All free of any additional charge, so I can really recommend it.

There are some free programs that offer the same feature, but all the ones I've tried were plagued by advertising of one sort or another.
