Thinklight Only Works with a Squeeze --> how to fix?

#1 Post by mystic » Mon Feb 16, 2015 8:03 pm

Hi fellow x2XXer's!

I just picked up an X200. Everything working better than expected. I upgraded the memory to 8gb and have an SSD on the way. for a bit less than $200 invested, I'm very pleased with the cost/performance. Not to mention the excellent Linux support!

Question: The Thinklight only works when I squeeze on the case around the light. I have also ordered the Bluetooth daughter card and plan on taking the LCD bezel off. From the looks of the maintenance manual, it will be an easy job. While I have the bezel off, is there any trick to fix the Thinklight? I saw someone mention that I should purchase a new LCD ribbon cable. Anyone with some words of wisdom from their experience would be appreciated. I can certainly live without the Thinklight. It just bugs me that the feature is there and almost works.

Many thanks :D

The most likely cause of the problem is a bad solder joint.
If you know how to apply solder on a flat flexible cable, you may be able to fix it.

:D Thanks! I guess I'll just need to take the bezel off to get a better look at what is going on!
