Which AC adapter for X1 Carbon w/ WQHD non-touch display?

#1 Post by domi » Sat Feb 21, 2015 8:12 am

I'm in the market for a 3rd gen. X1 Carbon with the non-touch WQHD display. I see in tabook.pdf there are three possible AC adapters for the X1 Carbon: 45W, 65W slim and 65W.

Although the above chart lists (recommends?) the 65W slim adapter for the non-touch WQHD model, does that mean the 45W adapter is not powerful enough for/compatible with said model? Or that it can be used with that model, but charging to 80% and 100% will take longer than the 55min. and 2.3hr mentioned in the chart?

I assume that it'll simply take longer to charge on the 45w charger. It's also possible that the laptop can only charger with a 45w while off, as in the case with the W530 when charging with a 65w or 90w charger.

No, because these two charts are independent from each other.

Actually, I have now purchased my X1 Carbon with non-touch QHD and it came with the 45W adapter, so it must be sufficient. I also bought a OneLink Pro Dock, which came with a 90W adapter.

That's rather disappointing that the new Carbons only ship with 45w bricks. My 1st gen X1 Carbon came with a 90w brick.

I'm personally glad I got the 45W adapter: it's so much smaller than the 90W one, so better when you want to travel light.

If that's your sole power brick, then yes I would agree as well. I only use my 90w slim power adapter on the go, I couldn't imagine using the full size 90w that came with the 1st gen Carbon while traveling. But since my stock charger never leaves my desk, having a 90w stock works better for me. :D
