15" R60 with 14,1" T61 Motherboard and W/T500 heatsink?
15" R60 with 14,1" T61 Motherboard and W/T500 heatsink?
Hello!
Lot's of people have replaced 15" T60 MoBo with the one from 14,1" T61.
Is it possible to do with R60? Is the build similar to T60?
I have 9461-54G upgraded with 1400x1050 FlexView and 128Gb Samsung 830 SSD.
Now it's having heating issues and I have to open the machine anyway, so why not to upgrade at the same time?
So I'm looking to swap R60 MoBo with T61 GMA X3100 MoBo and R60 fan/heatsink with W/T500 fan/heatsink. Is this possible?
And if it is, what are the part numbers I have to go for?
Thanks in advance!

No, 15" R60's are only compatible with mobos from 15" R6x's.
The most modern mobo you can get for it is the ones for 15" R61's, they are pretty rare.

R60 has a smaller sized heat sink fan, and even then, I am weary to use it on a T60 mobo.
In fact, the motherboard is special to the R60, the placement of the harddrive is different to the T60 mobo.
I think you'd have to cut the W500's heat sink fan grille for it to fit if you go through it and cut up some parts of the frame for the hard drive iirc.
I had an R60 with a locked bios that I just wanted to do a mobo swap with a ATI GPU T60 mbo, but there was a lot of modding that I decided I should just save the board for a 15" T60p.

Thanks for the replys.
Sounds complicated. I guess I will just do some dust blowing and change thermal paste.
T7200 Processor is now listed below 5EUR in eBay so looks like I'm upgrading
Have to find broken T60 somewhere

Re: 15" R60 with 14,1" T61 Motherboard and W/T500 heatsink?
No way no way. I can't find right now the thread, but a few months ago someone did exactly what you are asking for - a T61 4:3 motherboard into R60 4:3 chassis and custom heatsink, which involved cutting too . If you give me some time, I will find it, othewise you can search for it, maybe it's in the T6* section of the forum. It was thoroughly explainet what has to be cut out from the R60's frame in order to fit T61 motherboard and accompanied by pictures. As for the heatsink - I have both R60s and R61s 15" 4:3 with GM945/GM965 chipsest. The R61s were equiped with that type ot heatsink - FRU 42X4318, which really looks like a joke, but they were runnig some Celeron CPUs and I guess that they were fine with them. By the way, there is a bigger joke wich looks just like these, but withot the copper part above the chipset (can't find right now a picture)! R60s came with these heatsinks - FRU 41W5270 and FRU 41W5269. Right now I am using one of these R61s with intel T9300 and FRU 41W5270 (the one on the right of the first picture) and although I haven't done CPU tests, I can't remember CPU temp. over 60 degrees celsius. Before I get these R60s (got them just for parts) I was also wondering for a custom heatsink and found that Z60/Z61 heatsink can fit with minor modifications as they are also sucking air from the bottom and blowing it thru the rear and side vent holes as R60/R61s - note that these fans are rotating in opposite direction to the T60/T61s' fans. And I find the Z60's heatsink better, because it has three heatpipes and the fan is mounted with screws and it's easyer to dissasemble and clean it. You just have to cut off some pieces from the fan grille below the LCD, because they are sticking out and not parallel to the R60's vent holes; and to make sure that the heatsink fits fine over the chipset/GPU, otherwise you will need to bend it over. But if you are going to use a T61 motherboard with Intel GPU 41W5270 is just fine.
