Thinkpad x250 and Crucial MX100 512GB SSD problems

#1 Post by synic » Wed Feb 25, 2015 7:04 pm

I've put the SSD in the machine, and I've checked that the cable is attached securely.

When I start the machine, I see a message "2000: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". In the BIOS, under boot order, I do see the Crucial HDD listed.

However, when I boot a Ubuntu ISO, the hard drive is not detected.

If change UEFI to Legacy in the BIOS, I do see the Crucial HDD in dmesg. However, it says "invalid partition table", "stopping disk", and "START_STOP failed", and I still can't see the disk from gparted, cfdisk, or fdisk.

What am I doing wrong here? I see posts about using the SSD firmware update utility, but it doesn't say that the x240 or x250 are supported, nor does it mention anything about Crucial SSDs.

If I need to update the firmware for the SSD, how do I go about doing that?

I think there is no X100 firmware update yet. I once had a problem with some T410 and OCZ drives, my solution was to change the BIOS to boot verbose and to try to boot from CD/Network firsts. That little delay made the hard disk errors disappear
