Bluetooth on a Z61t

#1 Post by jronald » Sun Mar 01, 2015 6:39 pm

Moons ago when I added the camera to my primary, I also added the correct cable and bluetooth module. Never needed it till now, and cant seem to get it running. It does not appear, to appear in the hardware line up. Also the Vista driver will not install and I cant seem to find a 7 drivers. Any suggestions?

That means that the system sees it. You most likely have a driver issue somewhere.

What happens when you press Fn + F5?

Nothing happens when I press F5.
However I do not see it in the device manager. Where would it be exactly?

Both XP and W7 have should have an entry near the top of the Device Manager list named "Bluetooth Radios". Not sure if you are using Vista but I'd think it would be the same.

Just to be clear, you have do the Fn+F5 key combination to access the wireless radio menu. Pressing just F5 on the desktop will just refresh your icons.

I'm reasonably certain that one must have Access Connections installed in order to enable the BT.

Before you install Access Connections, you'll need Power Manager and Hotkeys.

Now how do I force it to see the phone?
I can see it in the Hardware manager now, it appears to be working, but its not finding anything.

You have to make your phone "visible", that much I know.

Someone else will have to guide you from here, since I don't use BT at all.

Good luck.

I was going to comment about using Lenovo's SHAREit software via ThinkPads but it seems to use a WiFi connection instead of Bluetooth, or at least I am getting mixed information about it.

Indeed. There is nothing intuitive about Bluetooth. It's a clumsy and annoying technology, from the day it was born, to the day it will die.

The phone will go to a speaker instantly.
The phone will connect to the car stereo instantly.
Its an act of congress to get it to connect to the darn computer!?!

Unbelievable

I've found that once you get devices connected the first time via Bluetooth it's a lot easier to reconnect again any time in the future. I have mine set up now so that all I have to do is turn on the Bluetooth antenna with Fn + F5 and it will immediately begin streaming audio to the receiver on my stereo or allow me to open a folder on my phone for file transfers. Pretty easy, though the initial pairing and connection does seem confusing.

By the way, can you check to see how your internal Bluetooth is connected on your Z61t? If you go to Windows Device Manager and switch to View Devices by Connection, you should be able to see which USB host controller the Bluetooth is connected to. Is it a universal host (i.e. USB1.1) or enhanced (USB2.0)? Mine connects to USB1.1, but actually I don't know if a Bluetooth adapter could even take advantage of USB2.0 speeds, so maybe it's supposed to be a USB1.1 device.
