Compatible mini pcie wifi *AND* bluetooth 4.0 for T410

#1 Post by XCLN » Wed Mar 18, 2015 12:14 pm

Hi

My stock Intel mini pcie 633ANHMW (Intel Ultimate-n 6300agn) works fine (wifi and btooth 3.0) - I would like to upgrade to a mini pcie that supports btooth 4.0.

Anyone knows which model to get (and where)?

FYI I tried the Broadcom BCM943228HMB but it was not recognized by the Broadcom installer.

PS. And yes I'm aware I could also use a small USB BTooth 4.0 dongle - actually am doing it currently - BUT I'd really like to keep my laptop clear of external thingies as much as possible.

You'll probably need a modded BIOS with whitelist removed, but a card like this would be an option:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6833106190
It's out of stock at Newegg, but make sure you look for EXACTLY the same number 7260HMW if you buy elsewhere.

Hi yes - thanks - actually I had just looked at the BIOS error and found that BIOS whitelist mod
https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread- ... st-Removed
Just tested it and it does work fine, BlueTooth 4.0 and wifi all good.

My 60Y3230-06 card is failing and I am also interested in the 7260HMW MiniPCI card for my T410 model 2252-AU. Why not try to improve if one must replace? From what I can determine - and please forgive the obvious and repetitive - a whitelist BIOS is required. OK, so the question becomes whether there has been any additional experience folks can share since these posts? For instance, one whitelisted BIOS recommended on another forum stated that the card worked after flashing but there were 5 beeps each time at startup. I'd prefer one that doesn't beep. Can anyone share LT experience with the whitelisted BIOS referred to in this thread, and if there is/this is one that doesn't beep on startup? I assume the beeps indicate the BIOS is not happy about something or other and that could become an issue later. Also, I would hate to brick my 2252 by loading a BIOS modded for another model even if still within the T410 range. Is that a valid concern? If so can anyone provide any pointers? Is there a better or more compatible card that supports AC/B/G/N and BT4.0? I am also thinking of Windows 10. Does that require a BIOS update - which would undo the whitelist and disable my card? Thanks in advance for suggestions & comments!

Quick notes /updates if they can be of use:

Not sure what the story is with the 5 beeps at startup, but I have modded a second T410 without issues at all. It also seems you should be able to revert the BIOS if there is any problem -though to be honest I have not tested that for sure.

One caveat I should mention, I did get errors after a while on my T410 about an USB device not being recognized, and my network connection dropping. That was annoying at it happened consistently but at irregular moments. I used a USB nic for a while till I figured out that all I had to do was to disable the internal intel NIC ..it caused interference with the Broadcom nic.

Regarding Windows 10, I have successfully loaded a Thinkpad X200 with it, so the odds are very good that the T410 also will work quite well. Note, Windows 10 big deal is being able to run smartphone apps, so it really is meant to be used with touch sensitive screens, where the proper hardware compatibility (ie BIOS) is essential. BUT if you are not concerned with that feature, especially if your T410 screen is not touch sensitive, it definitely should be fine with the latest BIOS, just like my X200. ( I also have a X200 Tablet edition, but haven't tested it with Windows 10)

Thanks for the very quick reply and the comments, XCLN. You did not get any beeps with the whitelist BIOS?

The wired card/controller in my T410 is indeed an Intel 82577LM. Excuse my ignorance but is it the 8760 that has a Broadcom on it? I use wireless Internet at home and wired in the office. It is kind of convenient to just plug the wire in and start to work. Did you ever find a solution or did/do you still have to disable the internal Intel NIC?

Again, thanks very much!
