X240 mouse freeze and slow

#1 Post by oliversl » Wed Mar 18, 2015 3:51 pm

Hi,
I have this X240 that the mouse slows down, freeze and the system becomes very slow for a few
seconds, then everything is back to normal.

Has anyone this problem too?

Regards,
Oliver

I got same issue here but is only happening when I got heavy disk usage. I usualy last for max 5 seconds. Keyboard input is late but not skipping, mouse is erratical/slow in that time.

Do you know how to fix it? 5 seconds is an eternity in a 2015 brand new laptop.

I just run the hardware complete test, no error founds.

Maybe uninstalling ReadyCache? I checked and the swap file is on the C drive, not the Sandisk 16Gb SSD drive.

Any idea what processes are running when you have the slow down?

Explorer.exe is taking 99%. Everything else is normal.
As it happens only when I got heavy copying on external USB disk this does not bother me at all. By "heavy" I am talking about situtation when I copy single large file and transmision rate is much over 100MBps. Please note that during that copying itself may take like minutes and this happens only for few seconds _SOMETIMES_. I think it is just because of disk buffer flushing.

Does this happen if you boot into a linux live usb, and try doing the same file operations? Even with copying large files, your mouse pointer or system should not lag, assuming you don't have many intense tasks in the background.

Ok, found the solution. It was a non working Express Cache.

Run from an elevated shell:
eccmd -info

if you get an error:
- download express cache
- run installer, select uninstall, reboot
- run installer again, select install, reboot
- run eccmd -info, confirm it working
- should be resolved

Download Express Cache for X240:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product ... s/DS035460

Download Express Cache for other Types:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ds033125

Helper if you need to format your msata:

Well, its sad to report that the problem is not solved.

I uninstalled the Express Cache software to no avail.

The mouse always freeze under medium/heavy disk usage.

I wonder if the X240 is faulty, I will try to create a support ticket with our Lenovo partner.

Anyone seeing this issue too as unresolved?

Thanks

I started uninstalling apps to check if there is some conflict, first culprit, Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) v12

After uninstalling SEP, the problem was solved. Still its unresolved, will report back if I found the solution, ie., installing SEP without the slow response from the mouse on heavy disk usage.
