What suitable and cheap thinkpad ? (2,5ghz,2gb ram,256mb quattro)

#1 Post by 123434 » Tue Mar 24, 2015 4:58 am

Suitable and cheapest thinkpad models ? (or HP,DELL)
Software's\Program's recommendations: (MasterCAM X6)
- 2.5GHz Pentium 4
- 2GB memory
- Nvidia Quattro/AMD FirePro 256 MB
- resolution min.1280x1024
- Windows 7 compatible.

T61 is good and cheap about 70-120€ but it has only 128 MB quattro. :(
(How much difference does 128 MB and 256 MB have ? I'm too scared to buy a laptop if it doesn't have enough graphic card power.)

The 15.4" T61p should have 256MB of graphics memory.

In my area(Europe) unable to find T61p 15.4" screen 256MB(Seems somewhat rare)... Only a lot of T61 with 14" screen 128MB.
Also feel free to tip any other laptops which are commonly available and cheap.
I know Nvidia Quattro 256 MB is used in DELL and HP also...

How about a T410? Some models have nVidia NVS 3100M with either 256 or 512MB vRAM.

A T400 would have been closer in price to a T61p, and some models have a Radeon 3470 256MB, but I don't know if the CAD software supports it. :<

One problem though, is the LCD, because 1440 x 900 is the highest resolution available for 14.1 widescreen T400's and T410's.

There's a manufacturing defect affecting most of nVidia GPUs from this era, regardless of laptop manufacturer.

You may want to look into a T500 or W500 which were both available with switchable ATi/Intel graphics and should suffice for the tasks that you're looking to perform.

Good luck.

Any cheaper options HP,DELL,Lenovo with minimum AMD FirePro series 256 MB or similar ? (I would not want to take "a new" laptop into dirty workshops.)
Lenovo T500 ebay 200$<
Lenovo W500 ebay 160$<

I have a T23 bought for 30$ but it's lacking a 3D graphic card.(for DNC transfer to old 1980s machinery)

I finally chose DELL M65 (mfg year 2006)
Bought it for 60$ it has even a thinkpad style "blue Trackpoint cap"-mouse.
+Downloaded Embedded Windows 8.1 Pro (Freebie from DreamSpark.com "university")
People say it has a poor graphics card Quadro FX350M 512MB but othervise it seems good. :P
Intel Core2Duo T7200 2.00GHz.
4GB memory DDR2.
