T440s/T450s keyboard swap

#1 Post by keenerhead » Sat Mar 28, 2015 11:03 pm

Hi,

I tried a search but haven't found an answer to this. Can you install the T440s keyboard on a T450s laptop? I just got my T450s and must say I like the keyboard on the T440s much better because of they texture keys. They do not show the oil from your fingers like they do on the T450s keyboard.
Why would that change back to smoother keys after the T440s?? I hate having to keep wiping down my keyboard all the time. Yes it bugs me. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately I don't have an answer to your question sorry to say.

Is your T440s keyboard backlit?

In my experience the backlit keyboards have smooth keys while the non-backlit keyboards have textured keys.

T440s and T450s have the same keyboard FRUs, you can exchange them. For backlit keyboards, there are two manufacturers, Chicony and LiteOn. The both have smooth keys, but the Chicony is even smoother, nearly glossy (not 100% of course). They get dirty and greasy much, much faster then the LiteOn keyboards.

Thanks. So what you are saying they could have put either keyboard in during assembly? The T440s at my office has keyboard keys that are clearly different than my T450s.

Yes, sure, you can end up with either of those keyboards.

The T440s does have a backlit keyboard and the keys are textured. The T450s has a backlit keyboard as well
