wanting to confirm (wireless card from 2374 into 2378)

#1 Post by mbelanger » Fri Apr 03, 2015 10:30 am

My T42 (2374) was acting up to the point of being in need of replacement (constant locking up at random and display going black but being fine on reboot). I wound up with a two-fer of what turned out to be 15" 2378's from fleabay, neither of which appear to have the onboard wireless card. All that shows up when I look at the hardware listing is the PRO/1000 MT with no additional indicator of a wireless card.

The wireless cards in both of the older 2374's are still good...is it a correct presumption that I should be able to use the Broadcom wireless card from one of those into whichever of the 2378's I put into use?

thnx in advance...

Broadcom card? No T4x series machine ever shipped with one of those installed.

Presuming that it's indeed a Broadcom card, you'll have to apply the "no-1802" hack and the system will accept it just fine.

Good luck.

Well, Broadcom is what shows up in the listing, so I am presuming that is what is presently installed. I have not pulled the keyboard and cover to look.

I did take my old non-functioning T42 (2373) apart to pull the card that I knew had been functioning and discovered it had an Intel card. Not sure which one since my eyes suck too bad to read the tiny print.

After getting into one of the new-to-me 2378's, the puzzle develops...it HAD a wireless card in there that was not being seen. Even if it had been bad, I would have expected the machine to have at least seen it even if the wireless was dead on arrival. I went ahead with the Intel-for-Intel swap since I was in there anyhow...but on reboot, I got the no-1802 message you referenced.

I have not cracked open the other 2378 to see if it was in the same boat of having a card that isn't doing anything.

Am now guessing I get to figure out the no-1802 hack that you mentioned unless someone else has other thoughts on things I can try...

thnx...

Can you at least read the FRU number off of it?

I don't have a download link for it, but it's very simple to apply once you've located the actual software...hopefully someone will chime in with a working link, since that's the only way you'll get a non-approved wireless card to boot in a pre-T43 system.

Good luck.
