FS: X200; free to good home: very nice T22; updated May 1

Hi all,

I'm looking to cut down my Thinkpad "collection" somewhat. I love Thinkpads but these have been mostly collecting dust while I'm away moving to exciting new cities with one or two laptops. My parents have kindly housed them for the last couple of years but I should probably move them out - if someone can use the laptops as part of a project or a collection all the better!

Note that these are located in Canada and shipping is via Canada Post or USPS if requested. I am now in the UK but will orchestrate shipping with my parents.

Apologies for the blurriness and off-straight lines in the photos, the finest days of my camera lens are a few years behind I think.

For sale:

X200 - Type 7454-CTO, manufactured 10/02. Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53 Ghz, 1 stick 4 GB RAM (PC3-10600, went 2 hours and completed 2 passes without error in memtest86), Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5150, Bluetooth, fingerprint reader.

Main casing is in fair condition. Windows 7 COA has rubbed off on the bottom (I have a photo before it did if you only need the serial #), and the very tip of front left corner has broken off. No problems with base electronics. 320 GB spinning hard drive included, with a possibly un-optimized Win7Pro install (e.g. no wifi driver, came from the X220 I bought) - can be excluded for $10 less if you don't want it. For forum rules purposes, please consider this as no OS included. U.S. layout keyboard in fair to good condition. I only have a 9-cell extended battery in poor condition with fully-charged capacity 18.42 Wh (design capacity 84.2). If you would prefer, I can not include it and recycle locally instead. Power adapter not included as I do not have a spare.

The entire top/screen assembly is AS IS. Top/back cover is in good condition. However, I've had to replace the original LCD and the LCD data cable and I haven't done a great job. Known problems include screen bezel chipped and cracked above the hinges, webcam and thinklight do not work (I think it's a cable problem rather than a PCB problem), occasional yellow pressure spots on the screen when carrying the laptop in a bag (these mostly go away after screen warms up but the screen is by no means perfect) and worn wifi wires through the hinges due to my clumsy repairs. Wifi seems to work alright in Ubuntu, reports 802.11n speeds, but YMMV. I cannot guarantee any of this won't break in five weeks or during shipment.

If you're better with working on Thinkpads than I am (not a difficult feat), you might be able to pair this X200 with an IPS screen charlesd has for sale here for $70 and a new screen bezel, LCD cable, and wifi wires, grab a newer battery, and get a nice portable IPS machine.

A few photos: http://bin.piorkowski.ca/thinkpads/x200/ other than what is pictured, it looks like a normal somewhat dusty X200.

Asking 80 USD + actual shipping. I'm happy to ship anywhere to established forum members, and accept a variety of non-Paypal payments.

Free:

This hardware is available free if you pay the actual cost of shipping. Canada Post would be easiest but if you're keen I might be able to drive over the border and ship USPS instead. Pick-up/meet-up is also possible in Niagara, Ontario area.

If you happen to have spares sitting around, I would appreciate a trade for a T60p or a X220 keyboard or battery, or a T60p-compatible wifi N card.

T22 - Type 2647-8EU, 900 MHz P3, 128 MB RAM. Physically mint. Two small glue marks on top of the top cover. Mint bottom cover complete with unworn Windows 2000 Professional COA. Mint palmrest with Pentium III and Win2k/Win98 stickers. Zero wear on the keyboard and when opened up it still has a bit of the new laptop smell. Tiny bit of plastic broken off right above the PCMCIA eject buttons. All covers are in place and HDD caddy is included; a screw for locking the DVD-ROM drive is missing. PATA hard drive not included. Contrary to my earlier experiences, this booted fine for me on a 4.5 A adapter now - can get into OS if you have one on the hard drive and it passed two passes and 30 minutes in memtest. AC adapter not included as I only have one 4.5 A left and I might need it. The screen is working and looks good. I couldn't get exact battery capacity but it lasted at least 20 minutes doing memtest. Photos: http://bin.piorkowski.ca/thinkpads/t22/ and from 2014: http://imgur.com/a/FKT2h (keep in mind that dust shows up on these soft-touch surfaces more in photos than in real life!)

Zeroshock III protective sleeve - one like this I think, fits the X200, the X220, and apparently 13" widescreen laptops though I don't have any so can't comment. Pretty heavy and bulky so I don't use it much. Probably best shipped with a laptop, or picked up.

Dock II (*30/*40 era full dock) - Type 2877, P/N 62P4547, FRU P/N 67P9010, http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Dock_II - the big honking thing with pretty much every port ever and its own power adapter. Comes with matching lock key and a DVD drive (writer, I think) that has a hacky-modded faceplate. Due to awkward dimensions (long flat piece) this might cost a lot to ship and given its value these days might be most convenient to pick up in Niagara, Ontario area. But if you're really interested ask and I'll try to give a shipping estimate. I haven't tested this recently so please consider it as-is though I have no reason to think it doesn't work.

Port Replicator (*20/*30 era) - P/N 02K8668, FRU P/N 08N1536, http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkPad_Port_Replicator. I haven't tested this recently so please consider it as-is though I have no reason to think it doesn't work.

Now gone:

X21 - decided to keep it as it was my first Thinkpad

701c - Type 2630-7TU, 75 MHz, 16 MB RAM, 720 MB hard drive. Quite beat up exterior with a scratched sticker on top lid, scratches on bottom, missing battery. But the interior of the laptop looks pretty good and the butterfly slides out perfectly. The 701 takes the 16 V yellow-tip Thinkpad power plug and this one POSTs fine and successfully boots into Red Hat 6.2 command prompt, I haven't tested further as I don't recall the password and I don't have means to reinstall OS right now. Screen works (one stuck blue pixel, see DSC_0291.JPG), keyboard input works, trackpoint input works. So the hard drive works (though I'm always scared that a drive this old can die anytime). Reports bad CMOS battery on boot-up. I also have a "dock" attachment, not tested except for physical match with port on the Thinkpad. So for projects, at least the screen, the internal electronics, and the keyboard assembly should be reusable. Photos: http://bin.piorkowski.ca/thinkpads/701/ claimed!

R50p - Type 1832-22U, manufactured 03/12. UXGA IPS screen in good condition, no reddening or yellowing visible, small backlight deficiency in bottom left corner but not major. 768 MB RAM included (2 GB maximum per ThinkWiki), DVD-RW MultiRecorder. Keyboard is not worn. Battery reporting full charge capacity 31.43 Wh against design capacity 47.52 Wh. R50p takes PATA drives, no hard drive is included (this is negotiable, depending on condition of my other PATA drives) but the caddy and cover are. No Windows CoA. All other case plastics normal, except missing rear right rubber foot. I'm not sure if this is normal on the R50p but the lid seems to have a bit of a gap and an overbite over the base - see DSC_0316.JPG. But overall, I had forgotten how nice this laptop is - a bit underpowered for today but in excellent condition. Photos: http://bin.piorkowski.ca/thinkpads/r50p/ claimed

X31 - case plastics fairly beat up; I haven't been able to get it to turn on. The orange battery charging LED came on a couple of times when I plugged in the power cable, but then went off when I pressed the power button while nothing else turned on. Now I haven't been able to get the orange LED either, with either that battery or another one that hasn't been charged in at least a year. The power jack feels kind of loose so it might be a loose power jack at the very least. Physically, the palmrest and keyboard bezel have cracked as they are prone to, and the screen assembly is wrong around one of the latches, a repair attempt gone wrong. In terms of known good parts, the keyboard looks good, the base itself might be alright to reuse, and same with top lid - the inside screen bezel is cracked though. I recall the screen might have had a cable-problem line on it though I am not sure. There are two batteries - both fairly low as far as I can recall. The laptop is equipped with 2 x 512 MB DDR RAM which I cannot test, and we have an extra 512 MB stick and a few 256 MB if you'd like them as insurance.
