As detailed elsewhere (http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=116324), I have a W500 that seems to be very sensitive to static buildup. When it works, it works great - so no permanent damage, but I can't imagine it being good in the long run. Oter times, it will not turn on, only briefly flashing the battery and AC LED's. Lately I've noticed that closing the lid to make it sleep seems to be unsuccessful sometimes, leaving me little choice but to remove the battery to get it to turn off. After reinserting the battery, it usually won't turn on despite repeatedly pressing and holding the power button. Repeating this over time and excessive patience have gotten it to work again every time so far, but it's not very usable like this.
What could be the cause? Would replacing the motherboard help? Or should I just take it apart entirely and put it back together in the hope that the problem might disappear?
