Can you recommend a good bluetooth keyboard?

#1 Post by fefrie » Thu Apr 09, 2015 10:58 pm

So I'm in the market for a bluetooth keyboard.

I can't find it, but my dream bluetooth keyboard would be made from the guts of a t60 keyboard with the integrated touch point and mouse buttons. It would have the same mechanical full sized keys.

As a bonus it would also fold into a protective clamshell, and last on the list would be a ledge to hold a tablet or a phone, although that is not important since phones and tablets change all the time.

Can anyone recommend something for me?

Not a recommendation, since I haven't done it myself, and they aren't cheap, but the Tex Yoda keyboard, combined with a BlueToothifier, might fit the bill. Can't speak to the clamshell/folio-with-tablet-ledge.

Lenovo does make a Compact Bluetooth Keyboard with trackpoint and buttons. I have two them hooked to my HPTCs and like them quite a bit. My only issue with them is the bluetooth can be a bit funky at times, but that's mainly because I'm using them 6'-10' away from the receiver. I'm guessing if you're right next to it, it won't be a problem. A backlight would be nice, but you can't have it at all I guess. As far as a T60 keyboard, that ship has sailed. The keyboards are good, and nice and light. The other downside is they're a bit expensive at $80 a pop, maybe a little less at an internet retailer where you can dodge the taxes.

I might be able to get that Lenovo bluetooth keyboard locally.

He's asking $75obo, so I could probalby get it for 50

It might be enough for me to transition to a 430 instead of a 420 for my next laptop.

Does the trackpoint work with tablets or cell phones? Is the trackpoint recognized as a 'mouse'?

This keyboard when I buy it, is going to be the one and only Bluetooth keyboard that I'll ever get. It will be my HTPC, Tablet, Cellphone Keyboard, so it needs to be good.

This is really good:

I wrote the glowing review. It appears to have a stainless steel backplate.

Unfortunately, it doesn't have a pointing device ;)

It comes with that truncated enter key to fit an extra key between it, L, ;, and '.

I HATE those kinds of keyboards.

Are you a T60 keyboard person? How would you describe the usability of this tx30 style keyboard from a t60 user's perspective?

I've never owned a T60, but had a bunch of seven row keyboard ThinkPads. I think long time ThinkPadders main gripe with the chiclet keyboard is the removed the seventh row, and they moved and removed some of the FN keys. Personally, I never used those keys much, so it didn't bother me. I liked the chiclet keyboard in the X230, T430 and X1 Carbon. It's solid, has good key depth and tactile feel, all ThinkPad keyboard hallmarks. Like I said, it probably boils down the missing seventh row and the FN keys. You'll have to adapt to the new style anyways as no one's offering anything even close to similar.
