Can't get SVideo port to work
Can't get SVideo port to work
Hello!
I am having trouble with connecting my IBM R50 to a TV via SVideo->composite connector. I have talked to the local IBM support and they said that I cannot use "an ordinary" SVideo->composite converter but instead I should use the original IBM's one. Further, they said that this "original" one has still not been produced for R50 and that they will let me know when IBM produces it. Ridiculous, I know.
I have tried many other things, with various PCs and cables, and I could not determine if the problem is really in R50's inability to use ordinary converters or the SVideo port on R50 is dead.
Has anyone here managed to use its SVideo port on R50 and what kind of cable/converter did you use for it?
Thanks in advance!
Josip

this Svideo its not a svideo to composite,is a ibm propietary 7pins conector with both svideo and composite at the same time, when using a Svideo cable you are using 4 pin (chroma.gnd, luminance, gnd)when using composite you are using the the other 2left ,and one left NC not used
then 7pins

S-Video
Hello Clanon2,
You seem to know the specs ogf that S-Video-Port rather well. Does Your Info also apply to the A31P?
It is some time now that I tried to use our tv-set to show a harry-potter-dvd to my daughters. Sadly enough I did not manage.
Could it be the adapter, if, where to find one (without IBM's premium price)?
Thanks in advance

started with IBM-XT (80186) and AST-Ascentias NB (910N) in the 90ties, relying on Thinkpads (770X, A31Ps) until 2012,
now using an upgraded T60-61P "Frankenpad" (15"UXGA-LED Penryn 8GB 500GB/7200), and an X201/X230T (i7 8/16GB/500GB) Windows10

friedrich-eugen,
You can use any S-Video cable, even the 5 pin ones.
Connect the cable to the TV and turn it on.
Connect the other end of the cable to the laptop and turn it on.
After startup is complete, go to display properties and select the TV as the primary display, set resolution to 800x600 and make sure you've selected the correct TV output, NTSC or PAL.
Connect a stereo mini-phone jack to the audio output and the other end to the TV's audio input. this is most easily accomplished via mini-phone to two RCA cable.
Start the movie and enjoy.
(The movie will only show on the TV, not the laptop!)
Regards,
James

S-Video Adapter
Thanks JHEM,
so I'll retry again.
I do remember that I might have had a driver problem. But since than several updates have reached my notebook. It did puzzle me, that there should be several types of similar s-video-connectors, including an IBM-one...
May be I 'll follow harry potter to hogwards school of wizardry ... It could be of some help anyway anycase...
have a nice weekend
