Help with pricing X220 to sell

#1 Post by carl3 » Sat Apr 18, 2015 11:45 am

Have the following system that I got for my wife some time ago. She has decided she wants something smaller (iPad) as she is handicapped and doesn't move around much. Would appreciate some help on pricing to sell US only. I will have to add some cost for packing/shipping if have to ship from Atlanta area. I know I will have to eat some of packing/shipping cost; don't have original boxes. TIA for your input. :D

I've been looking at X220's lately and bought and sold a few. Does this one have an IPS screen, and do you know which wireless card? Can you give the type-model (????-???) from the bottom?

I'm not so certain that the warranty can be extended further given the age of the machine, and that's one thing I'd verify before making a final call on pricing the system.

If you want to sell it reasonably fast, I'd say $250 + shipping. If not, $300-325 but be prepared to wait.

FWIW, I'm NOT interested in this system nor do I have a competing product for sale.

My $0.02 only...

Good luck.

I think given the configuration, likely $250 - $300 is a good range to expect. The i7 models with IPS and USB 3.0 are getting around $400. I would stick with the high end of the range and see how it goes. The X220 has some advantages over the newer models for some, and so is going to hold value for a while.

I just checked and the last one I sold (on the forum) was an i5 with IPS in great condition for $359 shipped, that was a month ago, so maybe you can do pretty well with yours. Clean and pristine, be patient and you should do well.

Thanks, all. I did check on renewal last month. It could be renewed, but it was a bit pricey, considering the selling price of unit. I was quoted $219 for depot, $269 for on-site; both, for 3 years.

That does not sound right. What's the production date on the machine? It's on the same sticker that holds the serial number and the MTM on the bottom of the laptop.

There's a reason for this question...

The only thing I see that looks like a date follows the type and s/n = 12/05.

As far as the quote, I gave them type and s/n and they gave me price. I talked to a lady on the phone.
Could be she made an error??

At any rate, I can delete the warranty info from any ad I put up. Original warranty is almost up.

I think if it was manufactured May 2012 and came with a 3 year warranty, it is likely able to upgrade for another year, although the cost is excessive IMHO. Put it up for sale while the warranty is still active, that gives you a bit of an edge when selling.

No. She didn't make an error.

What she did do is attempt to sell you a product that wasn't what you were looking for.

What you'd be looking for is a "4-year warranty upgrade" or "5-year warranty upgrade" since Lenovo - just like IBM before them - counts the total warranty from day one, and no Think system can be covered for more than five years total.
