Looking for a spare hard drive for the 360Cs. It has sometime been upgraded to a 1.44GB drive as opposed to the 340MB one it originally came with, and I need a similar sized drive to fit a restore image onto. A 2.1GB drive has been tested, but it gives the 174 error, so I suspect it's too big for the 360.
I haven't taken the actual drive out of it's caddy, but I think it might be the IBM DMCA-21440 drive. That drive will anyway be sufficient. For any drive of interest, it must be verified that it spins up and allows files to be written to and read from it when you connect it to a IDE->USB adapter or Ultrabay caddy.
Shipping to Norway this time.
Thanks in advance!

What does the caddy say? Still the 360 meg box? If I recall on the older hard drives in the black box you have to modify the cable to get it to work with drives larger than 810 meg. I seem to recall clipping the first two leads on the ribbon cable. Maybe somebody else can chime in here.

I definitely think you're onto something. Over the last days, I have been digging around for some more info on this, and particularly after reading this post: http://www.thinkpads.com/forum/viewtopi ... 60#p641152 it seems like the cable indeed can have something to do with it. The caddy that I borrowed the cable from when I tested the 2.1GB drive is one of those regular gray plastic caddies that holds a 340MB drive. However, the caddy that holds the 1.4GB drive is a black metal caddy that looks almost home made. It seems like some aftermarket stuff. If I get around to play with it tonight, I will open the metal caddy up and test the 2.1GB drive in there. If there's something to this, that caddy should be able to handle the bigger drives, as it has a 1.4GB drive installed in it today.
This 360CS was my first Thinkpad that I got around 1999, so the 1.4GB HDD upgrade was done sometime before that. That's also why it has some sentimental value to make sure I have a backup of this install.

Re: WTB: IBM 1.44GB 2.5" HDD.
Ok, so I just popped the 1.4GB caddy open today, and I realized that pin 2 was bent flat on the 1.4GB drive. So I bent pin 2 on the 2.1GB drive as far as I dared, while the IDE plug still made contact, and tried to boot up the 360. And now I got the error I was expecting, the "no system disk or disk error" message that I expected to get the first time. But after some trickery described here, I made it boot. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 30#p756223
So as this works just fine with the 2.1GB drive, I withdraw the WTB for the 1.4GB drive.
