Intel 6300 bad performance with high DPC latency
Intel 6300 bad performance with high DPC latency
My Intel 6300 card performs horribly, about 60% of the performance of another broadcom card from the same location.
connecting to a N600 router (Linksys E3000).
I only get connection speed of 180mbps ~ 240mbps, with througput of 120mbps
with high ping drops, and on 5ghz, sometime connection drops and require resetting.
at the same location, my broadcom 2x2 gets a stable 270mbps~300mbps connection, with throughput of 200mbps
This is 2 meters away from the router, with no interference in the 5GHz
here is latency while performing file copy over network:

Currently using windows 8.1 inbox drivers, updated via windows update. (15.10.3.2)
Any recommended drivers to use ?

Re: Intel 6300 bad performance with high DPC latency
Uninstall the network driver and install one directly from intel's website. I have had problems in the past with Windows's driver updates.

Tried all those versions, and no improvement:
version as downloaded => version in device manager
17.14.0 => 15.6.0.2
16.11.0 => 15.12.0.6
17.13.11 => 15.14.0.2
17.1.0 => 15.14.0.2
16.7.0 => 15.12.0.6
from lenevo site

Re: Intel 6300 bad performance with high DPC latency
now running on 15.14.0.2, and it is defeinetly better, but no improvement to DPC latency.
2.4ghz: 300mbps connection, with ~140mbps throughput
5.0ghz: 216mbps connection, with ~110mbps throughput
no ping drop or connection drop on 5ghz anymore
still DPC latency is ridiculously high

Re: Intel 6300 bad performance with high DPC latency
Is your Broadcom installed on an 8 or 8.1 system? It would be incorrect to compare latencies between 7 and 8, because 8 and 8.1 have much higher system inherent latency. In Windows 7, the task switcher runs on 250us intervals. In 8/8.1, Microsoft switched to 1ms intervals. This was done to reduce power consumption, as task switching tends to promote dumping/reloading processor cache.
W500x3 with T9900, , T400 highnit 1280x800 with P9600, X61sx3, X61Tx3.

Have you tried getting an updated driver from the Intel website yet ?hhhd1 wrote: ... now running on 15.14.0.2, and it is defeinetly better, ...
My 'Ultimate-N 6300 AGN' in a T60 with Win7 is using driver 15.15.0.1 (from 11/17/2014).
I probably got the driver from the Intel site.
Re: Intel 6300 bad performance with high DPC latency
I hadn't realized I was so far behind (15.9.0.1). Just upgraded to this version (which is labeled as 17.16.0 on Intel's site)GACrabill wrote:My 'Ultimate-N 6300 AGN' in a T60 with Win7 is using driver 15.15.0.1 (from 11/17/2014).

Yes, both are windows 8.1.precip9 wrote:Is your Broadcom installed on an 8 or 8.1 system? It would be incorrect to compare latencies between 7 and 8, because 8 and 8.1 have much higher system inherent latency.
If you see the screenshot posted on first post, this is not the mild increase in latency due to windows 8.
tried the most recent driver, which wasn't available at the time I downloaded the above dirvers.
installed 17.16.0 , driver as displayed in device manager 15.16.0.2
still behaving similar to 15.14.0.2
no ping drop or connection drop on 5ghz, but very bad latency during file transfer, and not very good performance overall.

Re: Intel 6300 bad performance with high DPC latency
I have the 6300 in a T410. I will have a couple other T410s up in a few days with different NIC cards. I have driver 15.13.0.2 in Windows 7 pro 64 bit. I will runs some tests. I think I was around 240-300mbps on my dual band 5ghz router on the 6300. It says the router is good up to 450mbps.

Re: Intel 6300 bad performance with high DPC latency
I get between 175-405mbps according to access connections (Lenovo software) with the Intel 6300. I tested it on speedtest.net and it read a consistent 240mbps connection throughout the test. That is basically 120mbps (after overhead in connection) in real world transfer performance. They say that your connection is basically half of what your reading is.
My theoretical max is 450mbps on concurrent (2.4-5ghz)dual band connection.
I tested the 2.4ghz band and it said between 174-194mbps. The 2.4ghz band had a download speed of 65-70mbps. For whatever reason the 2.4ghz band has a faster download speed than the 5ghz band.

That is somewhat close to what I am experiencing, regarding the connection speed.Hans Gruber wrote:I get between 175-405mbps according to access connections (Lenovo software) with the Intel 6300. Re: Intel 6300 bad performance with high DPC latency
I am not really seeing a difference between speeds. I like having two bands because most of my neighbors do not have a 5ghz band. Because this forum is technology oriented. I would hazard a guess that 75% of the users have a dual band router.
I guess the best way to test it would be at 200-400ft. Most people are within 50ft or less of their routers. The largest obstacle is not distance but walls in homes.
