T61 no Gigabit network connection in Win7

#1 Post by ac12 » Thu Apr 23, 2015 1:57 pm

I have a T61 which had been on a 10/100 switch until now.
I just put it on a Gigabit switch, but the lights on the switch and the access connection on the T61 say 100 Mbps, not 1000 Mbps.
The cable between the T61 and the Gigabit switch is a new cat6 cable.
Any ideas on why the connection is not up at 1000, and what I can do to get it to connect at 1000 Mbps?

thanks

Check the link speed settings in the network controller properties in the device manager.

Try reinstalling the driver.
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

Link speed was at "auto."
I set it to "GB" to force it, but then when I tried to reset the connection with ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew the computer claimed that there was no connection. The only way to get the network connection back was to put the link speed back to "auto."

I looked for Lenovo and Intel drivers but neither has Win7 drivers.
Lenovo had Vista drivers, and Intel had Server2008 drivers.

Dang, do I have to replace the LAN card? But the HMM does not show the LAN nic as being field replaceable, just the WiFi card.

Update:
I tried to install the Lenovo driver, did not install.
I installed the Intel driver (from Intel), same as before, auto at 100Mbps, and disconnects when forced to Gigabit.

The LAN cannot be replaced.

I would investigate potential faults at the switch / cable.

I figured it out, partially.
The LAN port on the T61 will go to Gigabit.
But the LAN port on the docking station will only do 100bit. I had been doing all my network thru the docking station.

So any way to get the docking station (Type 2504) up to Gigabit?

I have a 2504 dock which seems to work at the higher speed. I would check the cable contacts in the dock and switch because if you have any not connecting fully the lan will run at 100 not 1000.
Where to begin......
390e x1 390X 390X,700mhz
1 x T20 + about 8 untested for spares
4 X T23 + 6 breaking for parts
1 X T23 with Samsung 840 SSD and XP Great combination !

AND NOW....3 X T60s and 3 x T61s

Thanks for the idea.
Time to take out some contact cleaner.
