Reinstall of Windows on a Wiped Harddrive?

#1 Post by Gottaknow » Mon May 30, 2005 6:48 pm

Thinking about buying a couple of used Thinkpads T30s or T40s. The ones I'm looking at are still under the original IBM 3yr. warranty. However, the smartguys at the computer shop F-disked the harddrives. So how do you restore Windows? Are the restore disks available from IBM? How much do they charge? Again, these computers are still under warranty? I'd also like a contact number/web page address where I can get the restore disks. I was also wondering if restore disks recreate the famous IBM hidden partitian? Thanks. Let me know.

Buy a copy, or get the restore disks. Sometimes. Was around USD$40. Item #7 in the FAQ. What country? Yes.

Bulleted lists - they're a good idea!

Thanks for the reply. I read the Faq before posting.

7) I want to buy a used ThinkPad from _____________. They said there was 2 years left on the warranty. How can I be sure that's true?

Get the model and serial number of the system, and check it at:

I also searched IBMs page. There's so much there I probably missed it. Are you saying to buy the restore disks from IBM? Or just "restore disks" from some other place. Thanks again for the reply.

If the Laptops are under warranty you should be able to get the Rescue Disks form IBM for free.

I just bought a T30 with the drive wiped. Is still under warranty, I called them to request the disks and told them that I was unable to access the partition and they send the disks at no charge, I am assuming that if the laptop is out of warranty they will charge you a nominal fee for the disks.

I give them a call, you got nithing to lose.

The Rescue disks will also install the "rescue partition".
