[X200t] ThinkPad does not recognize disconnection of monitor upon undocking

#1 Post by SurrealMustard » Sat May 02, 2015 10:15 am

I recently switched from VGA to digital video to take full advantage of my secondary monitor and found a curious bug that only happens with the digital display connector on the docking station.

If I undock the computer, it seems to not pick up on the fact that the monitor is no longer connected and does not resize and readjust (the second monitor remains logically in Windows like a phantom screen). If I unplug the display from the dock while the ThinkPad is still docked, then it does recognize the disconnection and readjusts properly (but what good is the docking station if I have to unplug stuff from it just to get things to work right?). And yes, I am aware of the Windows hotkeys, but I don't like having to deal with that any more than I have to; plus that resets the resolution and positioning settings.

Any ideas as to what could be causing the problem or how to fix it?

Not worth messing with. Install a program that allows you to save & restore icon position at any time, and use that when things get messed up.
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

I don't really care about icon position (I only have one icon on the desktop anyway); it would just be great if the computer would recognize the disconnection of the external display when it is undocked.
