confusion over x230 spec. and Lenovo data base info

#1 Post by EvoT61 » Fri May 08, 2015 1:15 pm

hey tyhere, sorry if this has been covered n times, but im really confused with what i have and what i can and cant have in my X230.
I went on Lenovo website, typed in Model type and it came up with :
i5-3320M(3.3GHz), 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm HD, 12.5in 1366x768 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, Intel 802.11agn wireless, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64
On download list from Lenovo website it states:
Ericsson H5321gw/C5621gw Mobile Broadband Driver for Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad

but then i opened it and i see empty mSATA and BLUE with RED wires , behind battery i have sim card slot and im completely LOST

Do i have WWAN option it was with WWAN but previous owner/s removed it or its just standart configuration ( for all X230 ) and my X230 does not have ability to have WWAN ? :?:
My Model Type 2325-BA6.
IBM ThinkPad
T61 C2D-T8300 + FingerPrint.
ArchLinux ThinkPad
X220 i5-3320M

Hello EvoT61,

The lenovo support page show only the quick specs, usually it's better to check in PSREF documents to see the full specs.

Unfortunately your type "2325-BA6" isn't listed in the WE PSREF : http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/ltwbook_WE.pdf
so we can't confirm if it was initially shipped with a WWAN Card.

But :

- If the blue and red wires are insulated with black plastic, your x230 is WWAN upgradeable:

- If the blue & red wires have visible connectors, like this:

your x230 was initially shipped with a WWAN card and the previous vendor remove it.

Sorry for my bad english :P
Have a good day !

Information returned by the Support page when looking up model type should indicate that the system initially shipped with a WWAN card. For example:

2324-3NU: i5-3320M(2.60GHz),4GB RAM,320GB 7200rpm HD,12.5in 1366x768 LCD,Intel HD Graphics,Intel 802.11agn,WWAN option,Bluetooth,1Gb Ethernet,UltraNav,Secure Chip,FPR,Camera,6c Li-Ion,Win7 Pro 64

All X230 models listed in the ltwbook.pdf file have "Wireless WAN upgradable" in the description. It looks like 2325-BA6 shipped without a card.

Hello Ray,

Sometimes the support page doesn't show all infos. i.e.: i have a x230 2325-6CG with H5321gw card:
it's specified in ltwbook_WE.pdf but not on support page: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product ... 0/2325/6cg
:(

Do you know if the wwan cards are identical in US & WE thinkpads ? I will go to Canada this summer.
Is there restriction list in bios for wwan cards ?

Regards,

Thinkpad x230 2325-6CG

No they're not. Not quite certain on where exactly Canadian options fit in, though...

Yes there is.
