T61 / W500 Heatsink retrofit to R61 - Successful X9000 Swap

#1 Post by Easa » Sat May 16, 2015 4:19 am

Hello,

I have Lenovo R61 Model 8927 - 15.4" Widescreen with Nvidia NVS140M. I´ve done some frankenpadding and i need best cooling available. Is it possible to swap original aluminium Heatsink for the Copper one that was used in 15.4" T61/p or W500 ? Like this:

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/W500-T50 ... 74029.html

Thank you.

I hope you are aware that the aluminium heat sink is much better than the copper one. This one is the best you can get for any Core (2) Duo era ThinkPad: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-CPU-Fan-Hea ... 2c6e637798

I have tried it myself. Sadly, it doesn't fit into T-models properly, but it should fit into any R-model. It greatly surpasses the cooling performance of even the W500 heat sink and fan.

Well, i am not a die-hard fan of copper, i just want the best heatsink to cool down the X9000 ;) That´s for 14.1" wide, but i assume it doesnt matter?

In that case, that is the heat sink you want. Screen size doesn't matter, as long as you have a widescreen model.

I can post some pictures. I do not have the original package, but its HDD had like few starts in CDI and keyboard is like untouched literally.

Does the heatsink need to be from an R61i? Or could any R61 heatsink be used?

Undervolt it - it will be even cooler. Mine is 0.95V at 2.4Ghz. This gives me maximum of 45 degrees under the full stress. Worth it or not, judge yourself.

Well, i would like to keep clock intact, maybe even top it to 3GHz, or is there some adaptive program where i can make some presets, like in MSI Afterburner?
