T43 chassis flex
T43 chassis flex
Does anyone notice on their T42/T43 that the palmrests flex when you press on them? It's especially noticeable on the left side, where the Expresscard slot sits. Am I going crazy - aren't IBM T series supposed to be built rugged, and not have flex on the plastic parts?
Yeah. On my T43, I noticed that the left side of the palmrest flexes a little and gives a squeaking noise. I guess if many of us T43 owners make enough noise then, perhaps, IBM will take notice and fix the problem through a recall. No squeaks on the right side, though. Any T43 owners have this annoying squeaking noise on the left side?
Yeah, it's been on the T42 as well, and probably earlier. Someone was on here a few months back stirring the flames with a call of "FATAL FLAW DISCOVERED IN T42," which is how he referred to the squeaky palmrest.phpguru wrote:Interesting.. can any T42 owners report this?
On mine, it's the right side (where the HDD is) that creaks a bit. There's a small lip above the HDD housing where a rib on the bottom of the palmrest is supposed to fit. A few weeks back I removed the palmrest and covered the lip with a cut piece of business card. The rib now sits on top and I have no more creaking.
The palmrest area itself isn't the most sturdy part on the thinkpad, but just about everything else is incredibly solid compared to any other thin-n-light design out there.

I had that problem too. Like Kenn, I covered the lip, but I used a very thin slice of sticky sided foam. The creak is totally gone
