R61i Overheating

#1 Post by Richard B » Tue Jun 09, 2015 3:44 pm

Hi, I have an R61i Type 7650-A6G with a T2330 CPU and 3 gig of memory.

The CPU is hitting a 100% and then overheating at 90+ degrees and hibenating. I have just changed the noisy fan for one from eBay, although when I removed it I discovered that the aluminium grills were clogged up.

Could someone please advise me?

Should I give up and get something newer, is there a faster (cooler running) CPU I can upgrade to. Should I get another (different/better) fan & heatsink.

Welcome to the forum.
# 1: remove and clean the dust-bunnies from the fan of that CPU
# 2: remove and replace the old thermal paste with fresh AS5
# 3: check the result and report back.

Did that cleaned it used Artic Silver, unfortunately the problem is still happening; This is from Real Temp

Still closing down when hot.

The throttling software ran it at 798 mhz for a while, slow but no lockups.

I'd love to know which process(es) are to blame for 100% CPU usage...
