I don't know what's wrong with my Thinkpad T40!

#1 Post by plaquinator » Wed Jun 01, 2005 1:50 am

My T40 is about 2 years old, and for about 6 months now it keeps on crashing on me. I'm not sure if that's the right word to use, but whenever I move it just a little bit, the computer stops what it's doing and turns to a blank lighted screen. This problem isn't really attached to any program i'm using. After it goes to the blank lighted screen, I always force turn it off by pressing the power button, and then wait about 5 minutes after unplugging and removing the battery, and sometimes "tapping" it a little, before it will turn on again. I have no idea if what i do is actually necessary? Does anyone have an idea to what may be wrong? i've tried to bring it to my school's IT department 3x, and it's still happening...please help!

Try to exclude a software problem by restoring to the preload configuration (F11).

Do you have a current backup? Do that before anything else.

Have you tried connecting an external monitor to see if it is just a loose screen cable?

If all else fails and the computer is still under warranty, you can always send it back to Lenovo.
