Thanks Norway. I found a solution here:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 99a883265b

I down loaded and ran the batch file from Susan Bradley. Got the ICON and registered. To hide the icon, I went to customize in the notification tray and turned it off.

Good point not upgrading right away. Could be disastrous. I have co-workers that probably will. And I might do on my old T500 my son uses.

Witch versions of Windows 10 is the force automatic updates. I keep reading that Windows 10 Home Edition is the only one and then Windows 10 Home and Professional will be, then Professional is not forced and then it is back to Home and Professional to be forced updates and Enterprise is the only one not forced updates. I have Windows 7 Professional and Windows 8.1 Professional, so im guessing I will be upgraded to Professional if I ever decide to make the reserve witch haven't.

My understanding - which may very well be incorrect - is that one can not defer the updates indefinitely even with the Enterprise edition. If this is true, W10 will not fly well with IT departments of large corporations which disable updates by default and apply only the truly critical ones...

Remains to be seen, but the way it looks right now I'm not touching W10 with a 30-foot pole...

I'm waiting for 10 to be out for about a year or so, I'm getting the retail DVD version anyway to put with all my Windows discs even though it says in a forum that Windows 10 may drop the retail DVD release for USB flash drive only. http://gizmodo.com/windows-10-will-kill ... 1718439982

Other then that i'm paying for Windows 10 when I decide to get it, Windows 7 is still running well for me.

I believe you are incorrect. Last week my department's IT staff figured out how to completely remove the Windows 10 upgrade app from Windows 7 computers. This is out of concerns that some existing hardware and software may not be compatible with 10.

If I were Microsoft, I would not force people to upgrade to 10 right away, because I would make infinitely more money if people upgrade after the initial free year. This free year should serve only as an "advertising" phase, to get people to buy later.

Win 10 Home will be force fed, Pro/Enterprise Normal will defer for a few months, for enterprises there is also a special legacy version that will get only security updates no feature updates.

Presuming that I ever decide to install W10 for any purpose other than testing in the first place, that option would be the only acceptable one.

I was debating on getting a new 1TB for Windows 10 this month but was wondering If I install my Windows 7 Home laying around "came with my 7 Ultimate" will I get a Windows 10 Product key and burn image to a disc for clean install or is it just going to upgrade only. For me I don't have to worry about losing my Windows 7 or any version as each Windows I have on my desktop 95,98,ME,2000Pro,XP Pro, Vista Ult, 7 Ult, 8.1 Pro has its own HDD and I plug it in whenever I want to use that OS, may even get into Linux sometime.

How does windows 10 tie to your computer, Do they take your motherboard number and have it saved on their servers?
I first saw this on Windows 8 but Most if not all laptops I fixed that had Windows 8 did not have a Product Key sticker witch I had to use my Windows 8 OS install CDs and then skip the enter product key and then activate it under Windows and it works. I read that all new computers shipped with Windows 8 and newer, Products keys are in the bios now to prevent stealing/ripping off COA stickers. Windows 7 is the last computer I saw with Product key stickers. never saw a 8 or 10.

You can stop updates.

Press WIN+R. Type "services.msc"

Look for the Windows Update service. Change it to manual startup.

Write two batch files to start and stop Windows update.

One contains the line "sc start wuauserv" and the other "sc stop wuauserv" (without the quotation marks). Put the two files in your program files (x86) folder. Create desktop shortcuts to them. Right click each desktop shortcut, click properties -- advanced, and tick the "Always run as administrator" box.

Now you can start updates when you like and shut them off when you like. I did this on my htpc so it wouldn't be busy with things when I am watching movies.

Edit: of course, if you shut down updates, you're taking your computer's security into your own hands. You're responsible for any problems that might occur. I don't use the computer I did this on for anything serious. No financial transactions, sensitive data, etc.

Edit 2: I could see before that this was actually working (shutting down the service), but I tried turning the update service back on today, and I'm happy to report that it downloaded and installed three updates, after which I turned it back off. Seems to work just as it should.

Edit 3: I forgot to mention the reason why I blocked updates this way. You can stop updates by designating any wifi connection a "metered" connection, but you cannot designate an ethernet connection "metered." So if you're on an ethernet connection, this works.

I just chatted with Microsoft and Newegg and both didn't have any idea. I asked is Windows 10 coming out for retail OEM DVD boxed and Microsoft just kept saying we have the iso download and the USB flash Drive. I've been downloading Windows 10 Pro full 32bit and 64bit iso since yesterday and its a 57% now. As said before I have bad slow internet. And I also have all the versions of Windows on CD/DVD and want to get 10 on DVD aswell, Plus I just prefer using CDs still since its faster for me. The retail Windows DVD: http://winsupersite.com/site-files/wins ... ail-03.jpg

Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product I can't tell if this is OEM boxed CD or download. I'm hoping it comes with the 32bit and 64bit as 32bit I can use on test PCs. My Vista,7 and 8 came with both CDs.

I will also be looking to pay for a Linux OS CD when I find the right Linux I want.

Just a little update. I'd definitely recommend waiting on Windows 10. The graphics drivers for my machine were so buggy that I reverted to Windows 7 (you have a month to revert). I was getting green screens in flash videos. That doesn't really cut it on an HTPC.

Windows 10 must have saved a system image of the old Windows 7 installation, because the reversion process was really quick, the bat files I put in the "Program Files (x86)" directory [see my previous post] are completely gone, and the driver issues were completely resolved. All told, reverting took about 20 minutes.

No more green screens. No more forced update workarounds. Fewer privacy concerns. It's good to be back. :)

My recommendation is the same, for mission-critical systems. In my lab, the three main data collection computers are still running 7. Hopefully Windows 10 will be fully bug-free by July 28th 2016, so that I can upgrade them to 10 for free. But if it's still unreliable then, I will just keep using 7 on these three machines.

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 prematurely.
