Trackpad and graphics not working on startup (sometimes)

A few weeks ago, the computer developed a strange problem where about half the times it is started up, the trackpad (and sometimes the graphics) do not work. If I work my way into the device manager, it shows a "code 10", "device cannot start" error. I had this happen once or twice in years past, but now it is a regular occurrence. Any ideas as to what could be causing this problem or how to fix it?
