Re: Good news: Lenovo considers a classic x300 remake!
Where does David Hill say that any remake would follow in the X300's (and presumably X301's) footsteps?
Seems like the author just stuck that in there since he owned an X300 before.

In his blogpost: "The design cues are strikingly similar to the milestone X300", +, its supposed to have a 13" screen.Where does David Hill say that any remake would follow in the X300's (and presumably X301's) footsteps?

Yes indeed. David Hill mentioned it himself in his article.

I think he's gone too far in many ways but not far enough.
Did anyone ask for 2 thinklights? Did anyone ask for the rainbow logo? What's with the lack of real mouse buttons?
As said before, the T420, X300/301 etc. is pretty much the pinnacle of classic design.
Just do that and everyone here will be happy. Remove the CD tray and put in a empty sata Ultrabay + optional Ultrabay battery.
Make sure it has 7mm sata + Ultrabay sata + the new fangled M2 sata format.
I would guess the new GT2 Intel GFX would suffice. I would like DP and HDMI.
1,600 x 900 IPS minimum with FHD and UHD/QHD option.
Minimum 7hrs. 10+hrs with Ultrabay.

How dare Lenovo's biggest designer try new ideas! Who does he think he is, putting toes in the water with a quick render of a potential idea?
Give your T43/T43p/R52/X41 the SATA it deserves! http://mikejmoffitt.com/sata

Guys, the Ultrabay isn't a necessity AT ALL. It was a means to an end :
1. A 6-7 hours battery life
2. A way to rarely install software from an obsolete media called a "DVD" (now subsumed by USB sticks)
3. A way to view movies (now subsumed by streaming media or USB sticks)
4. A way to install a 2nd internal disk drive
I don't think the new laptop needs an ultrabay if it has several high-speed USB interfaces and a good battery life and/or a way to integrate a 2nd drive. Basically what I'm saying is that you can integrate a 2nd MSATA drive AND a battery if you abandon the need for an Ultrabay and a disk spindle. The space used by an Ultrabay could easily house a large LiPo battery and an M.2 60mm SATA drive at the same time!
As for a DVD, it is very, very rarely used, probably used for 1 out of 1000 hours in the life of the laptop, and external DVD/CD is just fine.

Lots of thinkpads (10+) but I would never be so stupid as to list them all because that would spam everybody's searches and people who *do* try to list them all would be jerks.
