Help w/T43 2687 DDU Order

#1 Post by BudCook » Wed Jun 01, 2005 11:59 am

I'm about to order a T43 2687 DDU and would like a little help on some things:

I have a Linksys based home network and wonder if the standard Intel PRO/wireless 2200 BG should be replaced with a Linksys wireless adaptor card or one of the options offered ty Lenovo?

I am an IBM retiree and get a discount. I'd like to order the machine over the Internet to get free shipping. However, when I start the order process I do not see anywhere to apply for the IBM discount. Anyone know how this works?

What is a DVD Recordable 4Max?

Does the machine come with any sort of speakers or do I need to order the IBM flatpanel speakers?

When traveling, it will always be by car. I'd like to use the Thinkpad as a quasi Nav system with MS Streets & Trips w/GPR Locator. Will I need the AC/DC charger for the Thinkpad?

TIA,
Bud

I think the 2687DDU comes with the Intel 2915abg card. You can use this card with your Linksys router, so you don't need to replace it.

Go to http://www.ibm.com/shop/epp and sign in with your employee serial number and last name. The discounted prices will be listed.

DVD Recordable 4Max is a multi-burner that can burn dvd-r/-rw and dvd+r, as well as CDRs. I think the dvd burn speed is only 2x or 2.4x.

The machine comes with built-in speakers so you don't need to order additional speakers unless you want better sound than the internal ones can provide.

You can get an inverter; it might be a cheaper solution than getting a dedicated AC/DC charger for your Thinkpad.. You plug your regular adapter to the inverter and the inverter to the cigarette lighter plug.
