Selling ThinkPad W520

#1 Post by levnon » Sun Jul 05, 2015 2:21 am

Hello fellow thinkpad enthusiasts,

I have a ThinkPad W520 with the following specs:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2760QM CPU @ 2.40GHz,
500GB HDD,
8GB RAM,
Quadro 1000m,
Windows 7,
9 cell battery,
DVD reader,
ThinkPad Sleeve,
AC adapter

The notebook works just fine. No scratches / tear signs. The 9 cell battery lasts 3-4 hours (at least on Linux). I've been using my W520 since 2011, and even though it's out of warranty, I've had no issues. I'm just tired of its big size and wanna sell it or trade it for something lighter. Can you please give me advice on where to sell my W520? I dont want to use Lenovo's trade-in, which is a total rip-off.

P.S. I cannot use ebay/paypal, so any alternatives are welcome.

Thanks

My best guess is that on Ebay your W520 Thinkpad would fetch $300-$350. Best case scenario $375. Having an i7 processor is nice but I think it's par for the course in the W series of Thinkpads.

Some believe $450 is the fair market value on a buyers guide. I don't really know where the best place to sell a Thinkpad is. The case of diminished returns vs. buying new vs used comes into play when buyers are looking for a laptop. It's still too valuable for the market in my opinion yet to old for the market in terms of dollar cost averaging vs. buying new.

OP asked where to sell, not for how much!

Welcome to the Forum.
IMHO the best place for selling such a machine is our Marketplace Forum! (Or try selling it to a friend or colleague)
If you put items up for sale here, you must always mention your selling price.

As payment methods you could accept:
- USPS Money Order
- certified Banker's check
- Personal check (must clear before shipment)
- cash
- ask a friend with PayPal to receive the money for you

So says the guy who lists various forms of payment accepted on this forum.

I was simply giving an honest opinion of fair market value. If he wants to sell here start at $600 and drop the price every few weeks.
