R50 can't boot with new ram

#1 Post by TheRocketLegion » Mon Jul 06, 2015 5:53 am

hi everyone!

so i've been trying to upgrade my R50 1829-5LB's ram to the max of 2gb. I have installed the first stick under the keyboard and it works fine, but when installing the second stick the laptop wont boot.It will just display black screen.

Here are the facts:
RAM:both kingston KVR333X64SC25/1G
R50:pass-me-down,came to me with stock 256mb stick and infineon 256mb,worked fine
OS:win xp

What i have tried:
swapping/repositioning the 1g sticks,wont work
updating bios from 2.something to 3.23,nothing
booting with either one of the 1g sticks, boots fine
booting with 1x1g and 1x256mb,boots fine

*'black screen' is where the system indicater lights(power, battery, hard drive...)turn on,the fan spins like hell, and no IBM splash screen,no boot up,no way to enter Bios

Any help would be appreciated here because i cant think of any way to fix this, and as far as i've checked no one has come into this particular situation

Thanks in advance :D

edit:i did the 'press the power button for 30/60sec and try again' thing,in case you were wondering

Welcome to the forum.
One of your RAM sticks must be defective.
Try running Memtest on each of them separately for 3 rounds at least. http://www.memtest.org/

Thanks for the quick reply :).I personally never thought of memtest.

Will try this method and post back as soon as possible, although that may be quite some time later :D
